How to create a copy of media instead of a reference?

I have a video clip. I copy it and then paste it. When I add effects to the copy, it also adds them to the original. How do I "create a new copy of the source media" instead of creating a "reference to the original media"? I though I dialog was supposed to come up when you paste allowing you to choose, but I don't have such dialog..... Anyone know how to fix this? Vegas Pro 13.0 Windows 10 64-bit. Thanks in advance.

If you apply FX to the events, they are independent. If you apply FX as a media FX then they are connected.

Easiest way to create a copy of an event is to control-drag the event. Generated media will ask if you want a copy/reference, but "normal" clips wont.

Thanks I will have a look in a couple hours and see if I can get it to work.

If you do that often, consider doing your work on the clip in another instance of Vegas Pro. Save as a Vegas project with the clip name. Drag as many copies of the Vegas project to the timeline (nesting) as you need. Each will be treated as a different clip.

Maybe you did it not the right way as it belong to get used in all Vegas versions?
