Man, that's an old request! Seems every couple years someone requests this. Here is a video example with download I made years ago:

Also, there is a smart Vegas plug-in (freeware) which does this. It's called "Route Animation Filter" and is available for download via -> this website.

I've used route gen a few times. It's a little buggy but it works.

You'd need to register and log-in to get access to the downloads.

Blender

Here is an example of a simple line draw in blender. There are tons of how to videos on the subject.

For straight lines, just use the mask, Mode set to Negative to reveal the line w/ 2 keyframes and solid color media generator on the track below.

If you want to follow the line just use Pan/Crop to key the path.

as Byron says.

Look an easy way to do this in Vegas is after you have made your path layer with a transparency.
Create a small mask square 4 corners on the track then simply move the mask square along the track and make keys progressively
Then return to each key and move the bottom nodes of the mask out, takes a few seconds.

This is with step one and two together so you can get the sense of it.

LRH (LDC), I've been using Power Point for this sort of thing and just exporting the animated slide(s) as an MP4 video (1280 x 720p) which you can then edit on the timeline as you wish, works great for me. The animation facilities in PP are goood enough for most of my maps/diagrams etc and it's very easy to use. Horses for courses maybe?

Rory, That's slick!
Byron K wrote on 10/16/2014, 1:13 PM
Btw Rory,
Just curious, did you create the line on the map alpha layer in Vegas or use a graphics program?

Thanks!
Byron
Rory Cooper wrote on 10/17/2014, 5:21 AM
Byron in a graphics application.

If you have your map image you select = paint as an object, then you paint the line freehand and select mask option in your graphics layer= same as deselect the background and save. This is will give you the line transparency layer same size as map cause you don’t want to resize graphics in Vegas.

I will do a quick tut and post it.

Ah, Thanks Rory!

Some great ideas here! Thanks everyone. Byron, where will you post the tutorial? Looking forward to it seeing it. Also going to experiment with the PP idea suggested by Baldbiker. Cheers, LRH

Here you go.. Made a quick tutorial:

The seasoned vets here probably have better and faster ways to do this. (;

Thanks Byron

I want to move over to Vegas 12 and 13 but they haven’t sorted the PTT missing samples yet and I use them.

This is a tut using a mask from a map with Vegas 10.
