How to import .mov format in Vegas Pro 14

Amadeus- wrote on 10/18/2016, 11:01 PM

At some point in time I must have installed what was necessary to import .mov files into Vegas Pro 13.   However, when I opened a v13 project in Vegas Pro 14, and selected the appropriate .mov file source, it rejects it.

So, what do I need to install/configure so that Vegas Pro 14 supports importing/using .mov files?    (Note:  I don't need to render as .mov -- I just need to be able to use those files as source material.)

Search with google for Quicktime player, not at Apple site, they don't support Windows versions anymore, you can download it from a lot of other sites

It is what is provided to me by my work.   I assume since it's a university and everything is Apple around here, it was just how they decided to provide the video/audio.

According to the file properties, it's 1280x720, 7029 kbps (7205 kbps [total]), 29 frames per second with the audio being 175 kbps, 2 channels, 48 kHz.

Interesting.  I had Quicktime player 7.7.6 installed; however, when I downloaded and installed a newer version (7.7.9), it works.

So yea, in case someone else is looking for the answer to this same question, simply google search for Quicktime Player for Windows and get version 7.7.9.   (You don't need the "Pro" version.)

Glad it works now for you, i had the same problem a year ago with W10, as i work mostly with .mov

(footage/video backgrounds etc.).

Quicktime 7.7.9 for Windows is still on the Apple site: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837

The reports about Quicktime for Windows security vulnerabilities and cessation of support started with a 3rd party site. As far as I know, Apple themselves have not made any statements about this.

animagic wrote on 10/19/2016, 1:26 AM

I believe the vulnerabilities had primarily to do with use of Quicktime on the web under windows. As a video format it is OK as it it just another wrapper. I've seen the quoted article and it is written in a typical "the sky is falling" style without much nuance.

The latest Windows version is 7.7.9 from January 2016
The actual version is 10 only for Mac

As far as I know, Apple themselves have not made any statements about this.

Additional information
QuickTime 7 for Windows is no longer supported by Apple. New versions of Windows since 2009 have included support for the key media formats, such as H.264 and AAC, that QuickTime 7 enabled. All current Windows web browsers support video without the need for browser plug-ins. If you no longer need QuickTime 7 on your PC, follow the instructions for uninstalling QuickTime 7 for Windows.

Thanks for the link Quitter. It's even stated on the download page I linked to that they no longer support it. But actually 7.7.9 is from January 2016.
