How to scroll a message across the bottom of the screen?

Here you can see me pointing to the two key frames. One at the beginning of the text, and one at the end. I press play, and you watch it fly into the middle of the screen and then slow down. And notice that the word Seasons is missing from the beginning.

Are you sure, that in "title/text" you clear all location keyframes? Put text on center of line.

Can you add screen of title/text? With editable boundaries on preview

I made a mistake, I still had stupid key frames in the pan/crop. Those are gone now and the scrolling is working correctly. But the text is still chopped off 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

Sorry I don't know what that means?

Radomir wrote on 12/19/2019, 7:09 PM

I seen this from beginning, and I'm trying to find out why :) put screen from title/text with on-preview edit.

Do you mean the box it puts around the text when you have the media generator open?

Make sure you are starting with a fresh track and generated text, as changes you previously made in pan/crop could still be causing the text to get cropped.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

The text was chopped before I even messed with pan/crop and track motion. But I've set everything back to default and I'm using the "Titles & Text" generator for this line of text from hell :-)

MikeLV wrote on 12/19/2019, 7:28 PM

I do notice that the pan/crop window shows the text chopped off exactly as it is when it scrolls, not sure if that means anything. Perhaps it means you cannot scroll text that is longer than the width of the project? That wouldn't make sense. Is there a no-chop setting somewhere? You can tell I'm losing it.

Radomir wrote on 12/19/2019, 7:35 PM

If you can't fit text on one screen, it's impossible to do it. I just checked it. even motion of track don't solve problem.

You can change size of media to fit all text in one screen, and then reverse it back in pan& crop, and move.

There is solution for you:

MikeLV wrote on 12/19/2019, 7:40 PM

Ah, so I'm not crazy after all. I will try your solution tomorrow, but it looks like it will work. If anyone at Vegas is paying attention, please fix this silly bug?

fr0sty wrote on 12/19/2019, 9:18 PM

This is solved by specifying a wider resolution at the top of the text generator. For instance, if it is 1920x1080, change it to 3840x1080, and you get a text window that is 2x the width of the screen without crop. The higher you go on the first number, the wider your text can get without a crop.

I can't see what all the fuss is about. See my video which took me about four and a half minutes to do.

Horizontal scrolling text from right to left, which is what the original post was about.

Jack S, I knew you could do it using the Text tool only, but I forgot about manually entering in numbers. Thanks.

MikeLV wrote on 12/20/2019, 12:28 PM

@Jack S, when I imitated your video, it worked, so thank you for that.

@Radomir, I tried to follow your instructions in your video, but it did not work. The words were no longer cut off, and I could set the first key frame by dragging the track motion frame to the start position. But no matter how far to the right I dragged the track motion window (I dragged it all the way to the end of the canvas, for some reason, it would not scroll the message all the way across. It would just stop in the middle, even though the frame was as far as possible away from the center. Makes no sense to me

Ever tried the Credit Roll tool to fulfil your task?

Grazie wrote on 12/20/2019, 1:08 PM

Don’t forget you can also use this approach to Text Scroll many many lines of Text vertically. Marvellous. 😏.

john_dennis wrote on 12/20/2019, 3:03 PM

Being a creature of habit, I would likely use Pan/Crop and Track Motion to do this kind of thing, but Credit Roll is way cool.

This clearly didn't take me all day.
