Strike Control + F4. I think you're correct. "It ain't there". It is under the File Menu, however. It might be a little dangerous to have it on a toolbar.

Thank you! i thought i was seeing things (or not!).

I use the file close in most of my apps. I place it at the END of the buttons list.Saves heaps of time as I do not always use keypad. (i admit i sometimes am eating while working, so mousew is good at these times!).

Again,
Thank you

Hmmmm. Since Vegas only allows one file to be open at a time, i've never used the Close function. Honestly, i don't think it's ever even occurred to me that i might close a file. Either i choose new or open, or i'm closing Vegas (which i rarely ever do). Those are the only way's i've ever stopped working on a file.

I've closed a file so that when I re-open Vegas the project will not re-load. If I am done working on it, there is no need to re-load it.

That's the second thing i change on every Vegas install: disable "open last project". I do that right after i change back to the brighter classic Windows color scheme.

Chances are just as good that i want to open some different .veg file next, so having Vegas load the last project is often a waste of time. On the other hand, double-clicking the .veg file i want to work on always opens up the project i want in one step. On the other, other hand, i rarely ever launch Vegas because i rarely ever close it.
