I seriously need urgent help!

Guys, I seriously need urgent help.
I’ve been working on a film for the past 4 months using Vegas Pro 22. Now, while editing, Vegas suddenly froze (Not Responding), and then out of nowhere the original project file disappeared from my desktop—completely gone!

I’ve searched every folder like crazy,checked recent files, recycle bin... nothing. The only thing left is a .bak file, but the actual .veg project file is missing.

This is a disaster—months of work could be lost. Has this happened to anyone before? Does anyone know how to recover or locate a missing Vegas project file? Please, any help or ideas would mean the world right now.

The .bak can load- change it to .veg and try to open it.

Beyond that did you have advanced save enabled?

@RogerS
Now I see these two files on my desktop…
But the original project file is still missing.
One of them is a .tmp file—what is that exactly?
And more importantly, how do I restore the original .veg project file from this?
Any help would be really appreciated, I’m panicking here.

shall i change it to .veg and continue? @RogerS

I'd copy and paste the .bak and then change the name to just .veg so you can load it.
The temp file I'm not sure about- it's possible it would open too if renamed.

@RogerS I swear I almost had a heart attack 😂
Turns out the .tmp file actually worked! I opened it from inside Vegas, and boom—it loaded the entire project! I immediately saved it with a new name on a different hard drive. If it had really disappeared, I might’ve jumped off the rooftop 😅 Months of work… gone with the wind. That was way too close. From now on, I’m saving two copies of every project—no exceptions. Lesson learned the hard way.

So glad to hear that. I highly recommend enabling advanced save which saves multiple veg files.

In my own workflow I save projects with new names for each stage of the edit.

Isn't the temp file, the file that Vegas wants to open the first time Vegas starts after an unexpected shut down?

@Nizar-AbuZayyad If you're actually saving your project file on the Windows Desktop, sometimes you have to refresh the view of the items on the desktop by selecting refresh on the Right Click Menu.
