I think that it is a not supported file type.
Look

MPEG-TS is a kind of video transportstream, that can hold different videotypes.
Did you try to rename a MPEG-TS to .MPG and try again?

I renamed the .ts to .mpg but it made no difference.

I see from your screenshot it is not de mpeg codec used, but avc.
Maybe you get luck on another try with the extension .mp4

Instead of just renaming I would try to remux or re-wrap to MP4 with an FFmpeg based tool.

If you have many files in a folder you are importing from, you will need to wait.

You can make life easier if you switch the import view to list (so no thumbnails displayed), however, when you select many files at once Vegas will need to analyze them to calculate total length and this will cause another freeze/not-responding message.

It is known issue.

See here for example:

That fixed the opening problem.
When I output the file with Vegas, it has no audio.

Do you have audio in preview and what export template are you using?

Yes there is audio in the preview.

I'm using the MainConcept MPEG-2/Blu-ray 1920x1080-50i 25 Mbps video stream.

When I clicked on the custom template, The Include audio stream is not clickable.

You need to do a separate audio export, using either Dolby Digital AC3 or Wave. Use the same file name and then when you import the video file into DVDA it will automatically pick up the audio file.
