Thanks everyone. Here is the link to a jpg and converted png file: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BZTqj6Zd7rGwR3RXt669fhV8uiSCf4H2?usp=sharing

both your photos appear to be zero bytes, are you able to try that again?

Ditto. Only need the original jpeg, not a converted png.

I have just done again. No idea why they are showing as 0KB. I dragged and dropped them. Is this part of the problem?

It seems I can convert them all to pngs in a different programme and they all work in vegas pro, so I am very confused.

@Jon-W Loaded into VP no prob.

Former user wrote on 3/22/2024, 6:13 PM

the jpg loads fine. I tried changing various settings that people frequently change but it still loaded. Not sure if it's been suggested or you tried it, but maybe your Vegas has become corrupted and you need to reset it, but others may have a better idea of what's going wrong for you

mark-y wrote on 3/22/2024, 6:42 PM

Both image files load fine in 3 versions of Vegas.

The png you uploaded is kind of strange, because it was encoded RGBA when there is no Alpha Channel in the source ;?)

Since yours is a previously unreported problem, at least in recent memory, I suggest you start by resetting Vegas to Defaults.

And best of luck with your project.

@mark-y I've used GIMP for many yrs, it' the only image editor I've used so the majority of my .png's were created by GIMP & the 15-20 I've just gone through all have RGBA whether there is alpha in the image or not.

mark-y wrote on 3/23/2024, 9:54 AM

If that is the default, it's not a strong endorsement for Gimp.

Thanks so much everyone for all your help here. It all seems very odd. I have not used gimp for any of these iunages at all. The jpgs are straight from my samsung camera I saved the png on the picture viewing programme with windows. None of these were from gimp.

@Jon-W You've mentioned GIMP several times inc about converting them so that's why it's been picked up on, but nevertheless from your MediaInfo & the files you've shared it seems there's nothing wrong with your media/images, the problem must be elsewhere, either Vegas or something on your PC...

Hello all. Just an update on this following all your help. So I tried to open the files in gimp and it turns out that gimp can't read them either. I am not sure what the issue is but it seems to be that my PC will not read from this folder. I use google drive and have now saved the files into another google drive folder and they are fine to use in Vegas Pro and Gimp now. I wondered if my PC had blocked the files and have selected unblock in the security option for the files and this has not changed the access in this folder they are in. However when copied to another folder in google drive I can open them fine. Really not sure what is happening being blocked when in one folder and not in another. However I now have a work around and have put them in my project now! Thanks again for all the help!

@Jon-W

While we're waiting, I was curious if the originals were scanned by you and saved in Gimp, or are they some you downloaded?

I have my own photo archiving and restoration business, I inherited a number of original prints from the early 1900s.

I actually took the photos just in the photo setting of my camera and so did not download them. There were in my possession as I bought them on ebay to make a video about them . I have since donated them to Cardiff Library as it turns out one of the people in them is a notable Cardiff man. .
