One of the new features in VMS14, according to following ad, is improved RAM preview.
How does the new feature work and how do I recognize that it's working? At the moment I don't see a difference between the RAM preview in VMS14 and VMS13.
It may well be the same improvement that was claimed for Vegas Pro 14. In previous versions the preview performance was said to degrade if you set dynamic RAM preview higher than 200MB. In VP14 that is supposed to no longer happen. There is a confusing thread about it here, with lots of misinterpretation because of the ambiguity of the language used in the release notes.
My experience till now is that setting the dynamic RAM has no influence on normal preview performance. The dynamic RAM setting has only influence on the size of the loop region that can be dynamically RAM previewed (Shift+B), which is very handy to fluent preview a part of the timeline with complex effects, compositions etc.
The standard setting of 200MB is useless for dynamic RAM previewing purpose. On my system (16 GB RAM total) I use 6GB for dynamic RAM preview.
But when it comes to render I have to reset it first to 0, otherwise rendering crashes VMS14 when I use also GPU acceleration.
I'm still confused what the "improved RAM preview" feature is.
