instagram IGTV rendering issues 1080x1080

j-j wrote on 3/23/2019, 11:43 AM

hey guys, trying to render 1080x1080 for instagram IGTV. when i do it comes out 1088x1080.
my vid is 1280x720 24p everything matches up on properties and render.
Ive tried everything, using custom sizing,, frame rates, using magix mp4 (not sony because it wont work) ect in numerous combinations.
ive tried 720x720 and that doesnt work either unless im doing something wrong.

thanks !

You don't tell us which program you are using , but I rendered this in the first program with that codec, VPro 15 and no problem there.

This is the MediaInfo of the made file

and this is the way I did it

Seem to remember this problem from a while back.  1080 is not divisible by 16  whilst 1088 is.  I think it restricted to VP14 and certain codecs.  It was reported.

OP tried to render to Magix mp4. Where do I find that one in VPro 14?

Fair enough.  Rendered correctly in VP15 but  timeline control lost after render completed. Needed to crash out & restart.

OT. If rendering to say .m2v timeline control is not lost.   Hence always use HB to make MP4.

You may be thinking of Intel HEVC 10-bit, which still incorrectly renders 1080 to 1088. I just checked MAGIX HEVC/AAC MP4 10-bit in VP16 and it is correctly rendering 1080 to 1080.

IGTV? or normal Instagram posts?

IGTV requires 9:16 portrait mode, while Instagram posts are different.

and yeah, which MP4 do you use?

I use Magix AVC/AAC - no issue.

Regular instagram is a square or nearly a square, instagram TV is supposed to be 9/16 ratio so if you upload a square it will come out wrong.

@j-j

update :March 26 , 2019 : windows Properties says the .mp4 is 1088 x 1080 , However , Vegas says the file is 1080 x 1080 and imports as 1080 x 1080 . i believe Vegas has the correct interpretation . I did another test of this 1080 x 1080 rendering and used custom Aspect ratio of 1.7778 ( because the original source is 16:9 ) . the rendered 1080 x 1080 is now full screen perfect 16:9 aspect at 1080 x 1080 .mp4 video , exactly what j-j wants. The 1080 x 1080 is NOT square this time because aspect ratio in the render template was 1.7778 End Update :

rendered a perfect 1080 x 1080 . No issues

the source footage shouldn't matter . the source here was 720 x 480 by 1.1852 pixel aspect ratio . the video ended up being Square because aspect ratio of 1.0000 was used . The original video itself fits inside the Square framework , showing as 16:9 . Perfect 16:9 video inside of a Square box .
