Instant Crash when single click on media for import

When i "add/media" in Movie Studio 17 Platinum I can navigate as far as the folder containing the files i want to import. The program will instantly and reliably crash after a single click on any file (not just a video) in that location. The media are 1080p 30FPS .mP4's shot with GoPro Hero 8 Black. I recently upgraded from Movie Studio 16 Platinum and did not experience this issue with that version. Now I am $60 poorer with a program that straight up doesnt work. Does it perhaps have something to do with both MS 16 and MS 17 being installed on my PC? Any help would be VERRRRY much appreciated. Thank you.

Nothing to do with the other program, they can be opened both at the same time.
Try first to reset the program exactly following this: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

If the reset doesn't fix it, try disabling the SO4 Compound Reader plugin, as documented here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/avc-xavc-s-issues-in-vp15-16-try-disabling-so4compoundplug-dll--108345/

(Note that link is for Vegas Pro but it also applies to Vegas Movie Studio.)
