It should still play even if it can't decode the HDR. The videos playback fine on the usual quality editors like Premiere and Resolve. It even plays back sluggishly on Windows movie maker, and effortlessly using Filmora9, which I haven't updated for a year as I don't use it.

I downloaded this sample video a month ago and no longer have link, but I have direct link from my download manager which might work for others if original poster can't supply a video sample https://eidsaw.am.files.1drv.com/y4mMlBp4DZNShCQ2PCR4EJZTNCRK1b7AGhjouXqyxXlyrFBwcoFnHttkorpXz11yZPWB6cQBv8fg1nJgNF8Kfnxl2fqcvdYgB4pJu9aYyijSpsbsJwToqeIQI-hH9zanDTuTmySI_YxObon4tiT6vdUsMDlstMHke5FabztFAlhZG3S0maXKF5b5qDAVHlGzeJXJl9pNYVTrl6wT9frwbhJfQ

@lenard This can be dragged to my vegas pro.

@lan-mLMC Are you on an Intel-based system?

VEGASHeman wrote on 12/24/2020, 5:44 AM

@SDavis: I checked Intel's ARK site for the processor you listed (i9-10850K), and your CPU does have the integrated GPU (Intel UHD Graphics 630), so this is somewhat puzzling. On paper, VEGAS should use the hardware Intel QSV HEVC decoder, which is the same as the one in the machines where this file loads fine.

Can you send a screen shot of File I/O preferences (Options -> Preferences -> File I/O) if you are using non default settings? Also, as you mentioned that Resolve too had issues with the file, can you check if your GPU drivers are up to date (Help -> Check for Driver Updates)?

I will also reach out to our Intel colleagues to make sure that VP18 is compatible with this processor, though there may be a lag in their response because of the holiday.

@lan-mLMC: What kind of Intel CPU do you have?

So this evening I reloaded the project file (inadvertently) and the clips displayed. As far as I know, nothing has changed. From my perspective, my PC is possessed.

However the clips are totally desaturated. I think that's because the files are raw. Davinci Resolve still doesn't display the clips.

So what exactly is the solution please for Vegas Pro? I'm on version 16, my iPhone (12proMax) play just fine in VLC, but give nothing but a solid green in Vegas...

Thanks in advance!

If you stick with non-proprietary HDR formats (HLG, HDR10) Vegas works fine. Usually for proprietary formats the maker gives a way to convert it for general use. In the article above it said even Apple FinalCut didn't support this format in October. I wouldn't really worry about Vegas or third-party NLEs. They aren't going anywhere.

This file plays back in Resolve but doesn't seem to be HDR (though I don't really know how to do HDR in Resolve). If it doesn't actually support the features of DolbyHDR, just playing back doesn't mean much.

Change so4compound back to true in internal preferences?

They haven't fixed anything so the same status, only works if you have an intel processor with an IGPU, and it's available to your operating system and you have a monitor plugged into your motherboard (Not your GPU), so almost nobody, but if you did meet that criteria, make sure the following are selected/the same @Stas

(you select intel instead of Nvidia)

If you've disabled so4compoundplug.dll or enabled legacy decoding, you'll get the green screen when trying to open 10 bit video.

This wasn't fixed with VP18 Update 482 for non Intel Systems. I"m beginning to lose confidence in the vegas team.... maybe they could be more open, and just say why this can't be fixed, i'm sure people would be understanding

@lenard, you seemed to have lost confidence in the VEGAS team long before this.
