Is it possible to export subclips

Ian-Weeks wrote on 3/30/2022, 4:55 AM

I'm using Vegas Pro 17.

I have accumulated a large amount of video for a project and I'm now trawling through it creating small (1-3 second) subclips.

I'd really like to export the subclips into external folders to make the final edits easier, but can see no way of doing it.

First question, is it possible?

Second question, if so, how do I do it?

Thanks,

Ian

A similar question was asked on the forum last year. Have a look at the comment tagged as the solution:

Using Vegas Pro only, you'd need to create a loop region for each sub clip and then render each one making sure that 'Render loop region only' is checked under Render Options in the Render As window. If there's another way of doing this solely using Vegas Pro, I'd love to know about it.

Thanks, I had considered this, but it's pretty long-winded. It seems something that should be fairly easy, perhaps Magix might incorporate it in a future release.

Literally, no.

The sub comes from the main and the main (event) comes from the actual source; so, no root, no leaf.

For export/render out, you needn't create a subclip.

This can easily be done with scripting. There's enough information in my tutorials to write a script that does this at http://www.jetdv.com but you'll have to look at several videos to get the information. I'd start with the basic "what do I need to write a script" and then look at creating regions around events and then look at the rendering series which includes rendering regions only. Or you can use a prebuilt script that can do all of these pieces (maybe not all at once but they can all be done). I know Excalibur can do all of the pieces and know there are others that can as well.

If you simply want to break up a long video into smaller, equal sized, clips you might look into FFMPEG. You could also specify the in- and outpoints.

I have been using the Batch Render V2 script to create sup-clips for VR360 stitching in a separate program. You create named regions and the script renders them to a directory you specify.

I found the script on this forum years ago. I did a quick search just now and got too many hits to track it down, sorry. It needed a modification to work--due to changes in Windows or Vegas itself, I forget.

I don't see an easy way to upload it. I'll upload the version I use if someone can tell me how, otherwise PM me if interested and I'll email a copy to you.

Thanks to all who responded so knowledgably to my question, I now have several options to investigate.
