Is there a way to edit the Vegas Title/Text animation presets?

Mindmatter wrote on 3/28/2023, 10:34 AM

Hi all

some of the preset animations are good and useful, but most of them stay motionless once the animation is finished, and don't "go away" in the same manner they appeared, which doesn't make much sense in my books.
Or, for exanple, the typewriter type preset 04 is really cool, but the text should just stay for a chosen length once completed, but it just disappears as soon as the line is done. So I have to make a screenshot of the completed text each time and glue it behind the event. I'd also like to edit the speed or other parameters. Is there a way to alter the animation keyframes somewhere?

Thanks!

@Mindmatter
I do like this:
To change the speed: Hold CTRL and increase or decrease the size of the event.
To change the duration: Click on the 3 dots in the event and click on "Freeze Frame at Cursor". I prefer to use this function instead of taking a screenshot.
To make the output animation: Copy the beginning of the event, put it at the end and revert it.

You can also create your own animations using the ProType Titler. It allows you to save animation presets.
Enable in: Options>Preferences>Deprecated Features>Enable ProType Titler|
Here is a video tutorial about the tool.

These Title&Text animations are originaly based on the Protype Titler. In Protype Titler you can change the used keyframes. In Title&Text you can only change the overall timing/duration of the animations. To end with an animation you could use the reverse option.

@Mindmatter
I recommend you do it in this order:
1st Set the speed you want.
2nd Cut the beginning of the video to be able to copy and reverse.
3rd Freeze the Frame to set the duration of the text.
*Remember when copying, check the option "Create a reference to the original media" to be able to edit the text and not have problems in the reversed event.

Tip, instead of dragging with CTRL and changing speed AND event length, you can also change speed only by changing the duration:

Another tip (I'm in 20 btw), there's a switch named Hold Last Frame (right-click on event, select Switches > Hold Last Frame). If changed to Hold Last Frame, the animation does one loop and then holds. You need to drag the end of the event, without holding CTRL, to the extra length you want. Then everything past the notch will show the last frame on hold. There's another relatively new switch named Trim Event to Include All Frames. That will trim the event back to its default length.

Brilliant! Definitely wouldn't have thought of that one, super useful!

You can also just disable looping: This easily solves your typewriter issue. Also handy for freezing video at the last frame.

Great, we have two methods to do this now. The way I showed or using @3POINT and @Robert Johnston tip.

I didn't know this "hold last frame" option. She's really interesting.

However, particularly I can't use @3POINT's second tip, because I use a lot of videos in loop and that would mess up my workflow.
