MP3 files cannot be drag-dropped into the Project Media window (cursor changes to a red crossed circle) on some files. However other MP3 files (e.g music from same album) can be dragged-dropped, however the MP3 file does not show any content in timeline (flat line, no music). Also MP3 files from existing project are all flat line, and do not play.
Vegas is playing audio correctly for any video file or .wav file, just not for MP3.
The MP3 files play correctly in Media Player or any other program that can process MP3.
Using Vegas Pro 17.0 Build 455 on a Windows 11Pro Dell Precision laptop. I have been using this version for quite a while w/o issues. Deactivated this version and installed onto a new computer.
Tried already to delete the *.sfk files, same issue. Rebooting, re-installing vegas, creating new project with only one MP3 and one wav file, and a bunch of other things. No success in getting MP3 to work.
Any ideas ?.
Update:
Thank you all for responding. I did a little more research since the problem was so specific to the MP3 format (granted .wav would be better, however too much work to change all projects)
So looking at the properties of the flat line MP3 files within Vegas, it showed the "mcplug2.dll" in associated with MP3 instead of "mp3plug2.dll". That got me to the issue below:
So doing a factory reset on Vegas (Ctrl+Shift double click on Vegas short cut and hold while it is loading) fixed the problem. However I still do not know why the wrong dll was loaded in the first place.
