It is not possible anymore to open a new project from File menu

Paul-Fierlinger wrote on 11/4/2016, 5:28 PM

When I attempt to open and play a new project to replace my current one by selecting a new project from the File menu, or even by first closing my current one before I select a new one from the menu, I get this popup after the new project opens:

An error occured while starting playback.

The request is not enabled for this device.

To open a new project I now have to always first close Vegas down. This has never happened to me before with any any of my older versions -- even now I can open one project on top of another without having to close my Vegas 12 version, so I don't think it has anything to do with my "device", a fully equipped desktop with lots of power and memory.

Can anyone here reproduce this this for me?

Yes the Playback error happened frequently for me with Movie Studio Platinum 12 on a 32 bit Vista machine.  I just learnt to live with it by restarting MS.  Now I'm on Win10 with the 64 bit version of MSPlat 12 it no longer happens.

Edit:  I've just remembered - it only happened after I had rendered out to a file.

I'm not seeing this behavior now -- nor have I seen it before in any version of Vegas Pro including V14.

Try Options > Preferences > Audio Device > Windows Classic Wave Driver (or the other options in that dropdown menu)

Might not be the solution you want if you have other audio devices.

You did have a similar error here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/startup-error-message-in-v13--99474/

What audio devices do you have? Are their drivers up to date? What OS?

Thanks Nick, but that didn't change anything. Strange that now I can't even remember the unpleasnt things that have happened to me and not even that long ago -- I guess that's another improvement that comes with old age. I recently reinstalled my Sound Forge 9 fromthe Sony site. I wonder if that has anything to do with it ... high quality sound isn't all that important for my work so I never fuss over that and have probably just a medioccre sound card that came with my computer. It's just strange that it started to heppen now -- I should have mentioned that this wasn't happening to me in V14 from the beginning.

EricNZ, this is not my case -- it's happening to me always. Fortunately I don't have to use it too often.

Ha! I don't know why I didn't think of this first, but rebooting the computer fixed the problem.
