License Error - 59 : Unable to Launch or Uninstall Vegas Pro 21

nothingness wrote on 7/8/2025, 6:22 AM

I hadn’t used Vegas Pro 21 for about a month, and when I launched it today, I received error code -59 with the message:
"There is no license to use this software."

I then tried to uninstall Vegas Pro, but the uninstallation failed with another message:
"The specified account already exists."

As a result, I am currently unable to either use or uninstall the software.
What should I do?

From Vegas Pro's Help Centre re error code 59: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support?question=375118&title=what-should-i-do-if-error-code--6-or-error-code--59-appears-when-starting-the-program

But as you say uninstalling doesn't work. first try resetting Vegas Pro back to its default (factory) settings via the following process: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

If that doesn't work, try a 'clean' uninstall' as outlined here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-vegas-pro--111205/

Please note that a clean uninstall requires editing the registry, so be very careful because there is no 'Undo' when editing the registry.

Hi, Dexcon.
Thanks for the quick response. The thing is that there is no Magix folder under ProgramData. There is only an empty Vegas Pro folder.
I tried the second method, and nothing happened.
As I mentioned, I can't uninstall it.
Thus, none of them works, unfortunately :(

Do I take it that you were unable to manually delete the relevant C:\Program Files\Vegas files or the Vegas files in the registry?

I installed it in D:\Program Files\Vegas.
I haven’t tried editing the registry because it says “at your own risk.” If I mess it up, it could cause even bigger issues.
I sent the error log to the Vegas server. Let's see.

Not editing the registry as outlined in the clean uninstall thread means that you are not likely going to solve the uninstall problem. Therefore, two options come to mind:

1/ Re-install Windows and as a consequence reinstall all the other programs including Vegas Pro 21 on your computer; or

2/ Upgrade to Vegas Pro 22 - and you can first install the trial version of Vegas Pro 22 to make sure that it works before purchasing.

OMG, the first method would be a total disaster since I have installed many programs, including DAWs, tons of plugins, virtual instruments, and so on.
I guess the issue might have been caused by upgrading the RAM on my desktop a few weeks ago. However, I also installed Vegas Pro 21 on my laptop. In this case, if I deactivate the license for my desktop from my laptop, would it work?
I don't wanna purchase a new copy again.

Doubtful, because a perpetual license of Vegas Pro 21 allows it to be activated on 2 computers at the same time. Try it, but it is not a suggested fix from the Vegas Help Centre linked to earlier and therefore unlikely to solve the problem.

As far as I know, registration/activation data lies in the registry - and the inability to uninstall VP21 strongly suggests a problem well beyond an activation problem.

Seriously, give the registry edit a try - and before making any change, create a back-up of the folder to be deleted as suggested in the clean install thread. The first time that I did a clean uninstall of Vegas Pro years ago, I was incredibly cautious double/triple checking every action with the clean uninstall instructions. I've had to do the clean uninstall a few times since and I'm still very conscious of being very careful. So far, it hasn't gone wrong.

When I encounter a program that will not uninstall, I use Revo Uninstall Pro which has a 'Force' uninstall option. The free version does not have the 'force' option but is great otherwise for uninstalling and clearing pertinent registry entries and other data that are normally left behind in standard Windows uninstall procedure.
