There's a very interesting thread at homerecording.com about some of these Chinese mics. Someone has been soliciting pictures of the mic internals from readers. Amazingly enough, most of the Felio mics (Marshall, Behringer, Cascade, ADK, Nady, etc.) are absolutely identical on the inside. Same boards, same layout. Most of the pix aren't detailed enough to get resistor values, etc., but anyone who is pimping any of these mics as being anything OTHER than a rebranded copy of the original Felio "Order 10,000 and we'll put your logo on for FREE!" mic is probably blowing sunshine up your skirt.
TMR-feel free to defend the Cascade mics, but put your proof where it counts. Go over to homerec.com and show us how the Cascades are any different than the rest of the pack. I've got 2 of the ADK's, and was surprised that there was very little difference-my conversations with Larry led me to believe that there would be substantial differences in the PCB's.
Oh, and as someone else in the thread has pointed out, while the capsule DESIGN may be similar, your statement that the capsule of the Marshall and the Cascade is the SAME as the Neumann is patently false, and borders on gear pimping.
Don't get me wrong...the Marshall 2001 is an OK mic for some applications (although it has generally been panned in reviews). But it's certainly not the next U47, U87, or any other vintage mic. It is what it is-an inexpensive condensor mic that adds another color to the palette that is your mic locker.
"Brian Franz, I would love to know what microphone developer would hire someone as childish as you. Who do you work for?"
AKG....Ever hear of them? And where in this thread am I being "childish"? I'm just wondering what makes you a self-proclaimed "World-Class Engineer" and the rest of us any less? You definately have some insecurity issues don't you? No one has asked you "Who" you are...or "What" you are..or in your case "Who you THINK you are." But somehow, anytime you offer one bit of information to this forum, you feel obligated to tell us. I've said this in the past, that it's funny where I find the people who are truly famous that I've worked with are the one's more down to earth. It's those asses that I've worked with who THINK they're famous are the one's always reminding me of who they are. Guess, which category you fall under Mr. Worldclass?
"Since you are so deep in the loop, why don't you ask Steve Foldvari, Sonic Foundry's Promotions & Direct Marketing Manager of our business relationship. If they want you to know, I'll let them tell you about it."
I could probably do that, with the fine people I communicate with on a daily basis at Sonic Foundry....but why? I asked you first didn't I? What do you have to hide? You afraid the smoke you're blowing up everyone's ass will be exposed? That's what I thought, Mr. Worldclass.
"A good example would be my posts in this thread. Now go back and read the information that was provided on your behalf"
On My behalf!? Wow, that's funny I did a search on "Tmrpro". A whopping total of 102 posts in these forums. Let's do the same search on "Rednroll". Hmmmm??...1917 posts. I guess after all the years of posting in these forums and offering information to other users, I really didn't know anything until your world class engineering knowledge helped the rest of us along. I'm all about sharing tips, I've learned things from engineers just beginning, probably more than any self proclaimed world-class engineer. Once again, come back down to Earth with the rest of us.....NO ONE HERE IS IN NEED OF YOUR TIPS, LIKE YOU THINK WE ARE. We were working engineers, before you came along and we will still be working engineers, well after you leave. You are not the Jesus Christ of recording like you think you are.
"******I gaurantee I've offered more knowledge in these forums, than you ever will.******
Now who's stroking themselves?"
Not at all, just stating the facts, check for yourself.
Brian shows up in this forum 90% of the time ridiculing and taking personal (I repeat, personal) potshots at people whenever he may not agree with what they say.
My point is simple; since Brian is getting personal instead of being informative, we should address him personally.
Ask me again when he does it to you. He's done it to everyone else in here...
When you click on "Rednroll" just take a look at his posts. He's actually started threads with subject lines belittling users by name as the subject line. And if anyone thinks they're superior than the rest of the individuals in here, it's Brian! A completely insecure individual... if you think I'm kidding, go look at this one for example:
"Just wondering why you feel it's necessary to post his real name in every post?"
The same reason he feels it so necessary to tell us HOW great of an engineer he is, although nobody's ever asked, or cares. I know I don't care who he is or who he THINKS he is. The thing I find really hilarious about this "pro", is that he has time looking all over the internet trying to find information on me. Pretty lame isn't it? He actually dug up some information from like 8 years ago, on one of the first artists I ever recorded. Pretty desperate behavior isn't it?
Talk about a shining star representative.
Here's a better string of posts to read: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=19&MessageID=188487
See how he's spent hours searching the internet for information about myself and how he's even ridiculed other users and had to apologize because he thought I was them. Yet, I have no idea who he is, or do I care to find out. Pretty pathetic behavior there "Mr. Worldclass".
These are YOUR quotes just in this thread:
"Furthermore, I personally own a pair or Gefell UM 92.1 Ss, which is one of their top of the line condensors."
-Good for you...who gives a rat's ass? I own a top of the line whirlpool washing machine, which has the best spin cycle on the planet in my opinion...that sure doesn't make me an authority in washing machines.
"you can't begin to name all of his successes and he is a legendary engineer."
-Good for him, congratulations.....what does this have to do with anything? Legendary??? What?? he worked with John Wayne or Marilyn Monroe?
"We set them up side by side and 3 world class engineers: Mark Thornton, Ben Hall and myself and a legendary, world class session guitar player; Paul Yandell all agreed."
-Excellent!!! Everybody has agreed and we would have not believed it, if you didn't happen to through in the "Worldclass" aspect. What world are you referring too, BTW...I haven't heard of any of these people?
"& BTW ..... I can burn the meanest RibEye & Salmon you've ever put in your mouth!!!"
-Of course you can, you're the best at everything ;-)
"Your statements from this thread lead one to believe that you listen with your eyes, not your ears."
-Let's talk about getting personal and rediculing other users.....puleaz!!!
OH!!! and here's my personal favorite of yours:
"SonicEPM ... READ: If you worked for my company and gave one of my customers/endorsees a response like that ... You'd be looking for a new job! You are a complete disgrace!"
LOL!!!! When I'm GOD, I want to be just like you!!!
You both do add heaps to this forum, I am always interested in what you guys have to say. But man, this stuff is just so pointless.
I’m sure you both have very valid points, I’m sure the other guy really is an tosser. I’m a tosser too; if that makes anyone feel any better (though you all knew this already).
These polar opposite types of arguments just spiral further and further down. No one wins, no matter how valid their point of view. It is mutually assured destruction.
It’s kinda fun to watch for a while, but it just ends up being boring negative, destructive sludge. It drags the whole tone of the forum down.
Brian, thanks again for pointing out how childish you really are. Funny thing is: I don't have to point out how much of an idiot you are, you just repeatedly put your foot in your mouth all by yourself.
uummm....condenser...microphone

In my experience I always dislike the .....

Oh, yeah, condensor mics ;)
Can't say enough about the AT4033.
Bought the Blue Baby Bottle. Very INTERESTING little creature. Great for some stuff, just SO no right for others. BTW: I'm talking vocal recording here.
B.
SM 57 & Good pop screen does it for me 97%.Or AKG 414 BULS or TLII. While not middle of the road, AKG's are very versatile.B&K (DPA) if money is no object, and if everyone's ears are so good, we should go back to 2" and 1/2 30 ips so our mix bus doesn't collapse our wonderful stereo image doesn't go by the wayside............everyone seems to complain a lot here....
