Loss of quality when importing a video

Pierric-MUTEL wrote on 6/12/2024, 12:31 PM

Hello everyone,

I've got an issue when importing a video in a Vegas Pro 21 project.

I create a new project. I import a video of a few seconds. I can see in the preview that the video has lost quality. There are also stutters in the image when I play it. I have the same problem when I export my video, without having modified it and exporting it in the same original format.

Can you help me with that ?

The original video is a .mp4 1080p 29.97fps

Thanks in advance for your help

We need more information. Start with Sections B & C here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

Do this first.

Try setting the preview to best-full to see it in its original quality. VEGAS can't play back all media in real time though. MediaInfo about what the media is would be helpful: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

The preview quality has no bearing on renders, though.

If you can share a screenshot of the problem you see that would be helpful, too!

@Pierric-MUTEL Hi, for the stutter have a look at this post, Variable frame rate clips need to be converted to constant frame rate before importing into Vegas https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/rendered-videos-stutter--145832/

Looks like the area around Shimbashi Station, was just there. map

You could try the active le decotage HEVC herite in options/ preferences/ file io and see if it makes a difference.

If not, especially if there are huge changes in framerate (MediaInfo can tell you this), I suggest Gid's advice to convert the footage for use in VEGAS.

Hi guys,

Thanks a lot for your advices.

I have activated the decodage HEVC herite and it's work !

I also used HandBrake and it's work too !

I don't see the different between the two solutions, but my problem is solve !

Thanks a lot ! :)

The old "herite" HEVC decoder may perform worse with some footage. If you notice that just convert the phone footage and use the new HEVC decoder. If you plan to upgrade to VEGAS Pro 22 later I think the new decoder will continue to improve and work better with more file types.
