M2TS files crashing Vegas Pro 19

I have build 651 of Vegas Pro 19 installed in Windows 11 24H2 and cannot open or even preview 1920x1280 25/50fps m2ts files - it just locks up rock-hard as soon as an m2ts filename is selected. I'm pretty sure there's a setting to change or add but I can't find any relevant workarounds or fixes.

I've done the Vegas cache reset, but no change. I've definitely edited m2ts file years ago in older versions of Vegas, and the file format is supported by VP19 if the list in the file/open dialogue is any guide. Frustrating!

There is apparently an 'issue' with AC3 audio, but VP19 and my Windows install predate that AFAIK and other AV apps I use on this PC don't have an issue with AC3 so what am I missing here?

Incidentally, I want to follow this post but the choices are "n" and "m" (no?, maybe?) which is a bit too cryptic for me, as are the choices in the bar above (k y V M C B A W Y , _ ), but they at least have popups. Or am I just showing my age 😂

If your Windows 11 24H2 was a clean install (rather than being an update installed over 23H2). then there is no AC3 support because Microsoft has removed the AC3 format from 24H2 - Vegas Pro and other NLEs relied upon the MS AC3 codec. There are two main options to fix this: 1/ transcode the M2TS media to, say MP4/AVC with PCM/WAV audio in a transcoder such as Shutter Encoder; or 2/ upgrade to Vegas Pro 22 and then free update to Beta build 243 as the beta build has had AC3 support added as part of Vegas Pro's program.

Just a regular Windows update. I don't want to transcode because I need to keep other streams such as captions intact. I know I can get everything out and reassemble into e.g. an MKV file, but it makes a heck of a lot of extra work and storage space, and time is an issue. If it was just one file I'd consider it. Can you suggest a good app to list all the codecs and their locations in a Win 11 system? I'd like to see just what is going on to prevent VP19 from using what should be there. I wonder if there's some way of using the codecs in Magix Movie Studio Pro because it can open the m2ts files (but can't save them back out as m2ts).

Could you share MediaInfo so we can see what is in this m2ts?

If VEGAS used to work a reset may help it: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

I'd also be happy to test a file if you could upload one anywhere (Google Drive, etc.) and see if it crashes my VEGAS, too.
