Minimize Rendering / Transcoding time?

Did a search but couldn't find answer I was looking for so here goes (and apologies if this is a dumb question):

I see that VP14 now supports ProRes, does that mean if I ingest in ProRes and then render out in ProRes, there is minimal transcoding/rendering involved? Likewise, I'm considering an A6500 for 4K, it records in XAVC S so if I render using that template, would it minimize the time required to render the file?

What I'm trying to get at is which format should I be ingesting in to minimize rendering time?

TIA!

XAVC-S won't do anything special to minimize render times.

XAVC-I or All Intra will do a direct copy with no encoding for a cuts-only edit.

I don't do ProRes.

If you want an A6500, then buy one. Also, buy a machine to do the encoding.

ProRes doesn't smart render in VP14 and the implementation is buggy.

Search the Vegas help for "smart rendering" and you can see the formats listed. The list doesn't include some AVI codecs that will also smart render. Here's a fairly recent discussion that includes smart rendering (no-recompression rendering): https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-detects-wrong-colour-depth-for-certain-codecs--103369/

How are you proposing to create the files prior to editing in Vegas? (assuming that the first part of your post is not related to the A6500 part of your post)

@NickHope - ProRes was if I used Ninja Flame for ingestion as opposed to directly in camera.

Thank you for the replies gents, more studying to do!
