Mocha Pro, 32core CPU, 256GB RAM, RTX 3090 24GB, won't play in Draft

Former user wrote on 9/14/2021, 9:04 AM

Hi, i tracked a piece of wood & created masks/layers in Mocha Pro so i could create like i swipe screen effect but can't get it to play very well in Vegas, so it's hard to line up the pic transitions correctly to make it look right,

t's not a problem with Mocha but i'm going to post this also on Boris forum too to see if they have any suggestions to help make it play better so i can edit, the vid clip itself plays no prob but with the Mocha added it is very stuttery. if i do Build Dynamic ram preview the bit i select plays ok but it's hard to make fine adjustments then have to wait again for the dynamic ram to do it's thing.

I put this vid of Vegas & Boris screen capture on YT so i would play at a better resolution for you, if you could take a look i'd appreciate any advise,

Thanks

I posted on Boris forum, got a couple of replies but no help really, ...

I'm curious how this system works overall for playback and rendering- it's extremely high spec. Would you be willing to give this benchmark a try and fill out the FPS you get of the selected area as well as the render performance (say for MagixAVC UHD with NVENC). Your results will help see if it's working properly compared to other systems of similar (if somewhat lesser) specifications.

The slowness might be inherent to the processing needed for Mocha, though.

Hi, Yes if i can understand what is requested of me i'll give whatever info you want 👍

AVC files seem to run best on the timeline.

I found that rendering out an Magix AVC/AAC using the top of the 2 options (not NVENC) is best if i inc pictures or texts within a video timeline, it's slower but more accurate/stable outcome, the result is as in the timeline.

using the NVENC option is faster by nearly ½ as much for export but gets the pics & text messed up, they jump backwards n forwards when the exported render is played,

I use the NVENC option to render if it's just vid content, a 4k UHD 3840x2160 project of maybe 30 clips totalling about 30mins, with 12fr crossfade between each clip will play in Vegas in the preview Good-Full, sometimes Best-Full , (I tend to leave it at Good-Auto though, i can't see the difference in the little preview window)

That 30min timeline of 30 clips will render out using NVENC in about 20mins-ish,

Like you say once fx are added it does slow a bit depending on what i add but this Mocha project is a little frustrating, & again like you say it is a decently high spec machine, surely i should be able to do this, if i can't do it with this machine what do i need to be able to 🤷‍♂️🤣

I'm hoping it's a couple of adjustments i can make to get the best out of Vegas or this machine,

I can't turn GPU off as this machine has no Intel internal GPU,

Changing Dynamic RAM makes no difference apart from altering the amount of time on the timeline i can select to Build Dynamic Preview.

For the benchmark project (instructions are at the link I gave) you can do a render using Mainconcept instead of NVENC- that's fine. Personally I prefer that as well as it's a higher quality render usually. Your CPU is more than fast enough as well!

Dynamic ram preview sounds right to me- if you give it more memory you can preview a longer section of the timeline, that's about it.

I watched your video and your preferences look fine. I'm not sure what your media is. If it's HEVC you can try unchecking enable legacy HEVC on file i/o to see if it performs better.

Beyond that I'd change resample in project properties to "disable resample" and set that as default for new projects. Not likely an issue for this project, though.

Does right-clicking media and "create video proxy" help? If not I think you may be stuck with shift + b or shift + m to get real-time playback until more functions of Vegas are offloaded to the GPU.

Thanks for your help,

I opened that link but I'll have to have a closer look at the benchmark later when i've read the comments & my brain is working better 👍🥱😁

initially unchecking enable legacy HEVC doesn't seem to make any difference to playback, i'll keep that in mind as i go to,

create video proxy is what was suggested on the Boris forum, unfortunately it doesn't help, i think it's the same as Shift-b & m, it does make it play better but as soon as i try to move the pics on the top track or alter the length of the transition that prerender becomes obsolete & it goes back to stuttering playback.

you see in this pic, my finger swipes a fraction earlier or late than the pic Wipes across, this what i'm trying to get the timing right.

The proxy works differently and affects the media itself. It doesn't get overwritten once something changes. It's only active in draft and preview mode, though.

However your problem seems to be the Fx itself, not the underlying media.

Ok, I thought i'd try a different approach, maybe see if ii can do it in steps instead of the whole timeline clip but i just tried Create Proxy by right clicking clip in the Project Media tab but it's greyed out, it won't let me. 🤔

RogerS wrote on 9/16/2021, 5:51 AM

You should be able to apply it in Project Media- you can't create a proxy twice for the same file though. Alternatively if you created a subclip using trimmer, perhaps you can just proxy the subclip and not the entire media?

@RogerS Hi, sorry i haven't had time to do your Benchmark, reading it blew my mind a little to be honest

but i have sort of worked out something for my problem, this might be obvious to those who know but for anyone who might read this -

I went back to the 4k UHD 3840x2160 project,

I placed my pics as close as i could in the order i wanted on the top track with the wipe transitions & the Composite setting to Mocha Pro, tracking the clip below, just as it was before,

I selected the whole project, went to Tools - Build Dynamic Ram Preview, this took a few minutes,

I was then able to go in & move my pic clips & fades one at a time, keeping the selection to the whole project i clicked build dynamic ram again between each edit, because it had already done the whole thing at the beginning all had to do was update where i'd edited, it sped through what it had done previously & took a few seconds each time, 👍

Render of this 2:18mIn clip with Magix AVC/AAC (NEVNC) took 7:12mins

This is what i left the selection area at for the whole time while editing & building dynamic ram -

That seems like a doable approach- you got the results you wanted?

Sorry the benchmarking seemed difficult, it's really not. Maybe ignore the thread and just look at the submission form where I put screenshots of what you need to do and the form choices are multiple choice which should help guide you.
