More Vegas 5 Specs Arrive

Regarding DVDA, everyone talks about end actions, but I regard auto-action (where the button automatically triggers when selected; for uses, see Film-clip example with DVDLab) to be almost as important. I've seen no mention of it yet. Here's hoping.

I hope they add Closed Captioning support for DVDA, that would really make it a worthwhile purchase for a lot of people.

About enveloppe recording :

I assume that since Vegas 5 will have support for hardware controllers, you'll be able to record fader/knob movements on the controller and translate them in enveloppes on the screen, like in an audio DAW.
It might also be possible to record any movement you do with the mouse as enveloppes or keyframes. while the audio/video is playing.

Just a guess, but Sound Forge 7.0 added the capability of automatically recording when audio reaches a certain decibel level. Maybe "auto-input record monitoring" is Vegas' version of that?

I'm excited...

Do you mean Closed Captioning, or do you mean Subtitling? Two different things. Closed Captioning is contained in line 21 of the Vertical Blanking Interval of analog video; Subtitles are text that are interleaved into the VOB file and optionally displayed by the DVD player.

Hmmm... this is sounding more like a *minor* upgrade, the more I hear about it. It's not the huge jump that Vegas 2 to 3, or even 3 to 4 was... especially for those of use that don't need to author DVD's.

Now, mind you, I don't know any more about the details than anyone else does... less, actually, as I'm sure there are beta testers floating around the boards... but I may be sticking with Vegas 4 for the time being.

David,

The murmurs and rumbles of the folks who have seem Vegas and are still under NDA, leave me to believe that this will be a major upgrade. I think they are already planned to do what they did with Vegas 4.0, which was when they released 4.0b about a month later, they added even more functionality.
David_Kuznicki wrote on 4/14/2004, 4:53 PM
And that's certainly my hope. However, that being said, I may wait & see before upgrading... I'm still waiting to see an offical announcement, of course. For all I know, there may be a 'must have' feature that we haven't heard about yet, or coming in a future revision.

But I can live without 3D support... although it's ambitious, I use AE for that.
I can live without control surface support... as I'd have to pop the $$ for one.
And a good deal of the other features sound relatively minor at this point.

But, I'm still hoping! :)

David.

bezier masking = loads of fun
subclips = party
worth the upgrade for me

I find this interesting.

When a list like this comes out... I see alot of people interpreting it as a FINAL list of features....

based on the responses - No EDL support ? etc

The list also says "and much more"

How come people miss that line? Truth is, we just gotta wait and see - and simply treat this as the teaser it is.

3D motion and Bezier masking will change the look of everything we do! I LOVE IT! Bezier, bezier bezieeeer, bezier, bezier, bezieeeeeer...wohooo.
(And it was a function I asked for using "Product Suggestion" in the support menu above, several months ago. Sony hears prayer, hahaa.)

The final feature sets have not been made public and will not be made public until launch (which is Sooooooooon!).

That said, rest assured:

Vegas 5= another monster upgrade.

DVDA 2.0: tons of new stuff there too.

Mr SonyEPM:

Let's hope Sony honour the free upgrade to Vegas 5 for recent purchasers of Vegas 4 located OUTSIDE the U.S. of A

Afterall, it's only a file download, isn't it?

Cheers,

This is going just like last time, when Vegas 4 came out. First there were cries of "I don't know what I want, but I want it NOW". Then, amongst bits of planted or leaked info: "Give me more specifics" and "Where can I get it?". Then, when it finally arrived: "Whaddaya mean - I have to PAY for an upgrade?" "But you've only gotten as far as 3c, what about the rest of the alphabet?"

Well folks, I'm as exited as the next person. Let's hope this Vegas makes us all winners.

Does anyone know yet if V4 people get a special limited time upgrade price (like with V3-4?) I could afford $150 (till the wife see's the checkbook!) :)
stormstereo wrote on 4/15/2004, 11:53 AM
Nat - Yeah man! I used to work with Digital Fusion, a monster of a compositor and I absolutely loved the bezier-keyframeable masking. This is a WONDERFUL addition!
