Movie Studio 13 Platinum Site License not installing & registrating

andreww wrote on 10/2/2016, 8:52 AM

To All,

I am in such dire need of help Installing Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 13 for one of our high school classrooms that needs this software to run the class.  Please look at this link http://www.musicednet.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/Install-Sony-site-licenses-from-command-line.aspx

This is basically what we have done successfully in the past, but when we push the software via GPO it says it installs and fails.  So we tried it manually and it wants registration.  Registration fails.  In the past few years since we purchased the software everything ran flawlessly without registration prompts.  We switched servers this summer where the share was migrated to.  Do we need a new setup.dat file?  Is the setup.dat file the problem?  Oh please someone help us!!!

Thanks so much in advance!

Andrew

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Magix Support.

If the DAT file and exe are not in the same location, or the DAT is not initiated for some reason, or the installer is not the specific site license build provided on purchase, it will install the single user version of the app and prompt for online activation (which a site license will not do).

You can resolve this issue using the directions provided below.

Site License Activation Prompts for Authentication Code

Published 04/15/2013 04:08 PM   |    Updated 01/11/2016 08:49 AM

When activating my site-licensed software, I am prompted to register online.  However, when I attempt to register, I receive an error message.  How do I activate my software?

Our software has two different licensing methods. It can either be activated as a site license or registered as retail software. This article refers to site license activation. For issues with retail software registration, try this article instead.

If you have installed your site-licensed software correctly, it should prompt you for a "Site License Serial Number." This is the full code from your EULA, including the comma but no spaces. Once you enter that code, it will activate automatically. There are no additional registration steps.

If you are prompted to enter a "Serial Number" and register online, then the software is in a retail mode. When this happens, your site license number will no longer work. To go back to a site license activation, you will need to clear the license key and reinstall your software. Make sure all Sony Creative Software applications are closed when you do this.

Clearing the license key will remove the retail registration data that has already been stored in your registry. To do this, you will need to open your registry editor. Remember that the registry is an extremely sensitive area on your computer. Do not make any changes unless specifically instructed to do so.

To open the Registry Editor, press Windows Key + R and type "regedit" then click OK. Once you have opened the registry, locate the Sony Creative Software key:

For 32-bit computers: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Creative Software\

For 64-bit computers: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Creative Software\

Under Sony Creative Software, you can find the license key under its respective application key:  ...\Application Name\Version\License

For example, the license key for 64-bit Movie Studio Platinum 12.0 is here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Creative Software\Movie Studio Platinum\12.0\License

When you find the license key, right click it and choose delete. Close your registry editor.

Once the license key has been removed, go to your control panel and uninstall the software. Then reinstall it with your original site license materials. This should allow you to activate the software as a site license without any further registration steps.

If you are still having difficulty activating your license after these steps, please contact customer support. You can use the contact information on your installation guide, or click here

Andreww:

1. Are you just re-installing the same version that ran on the "old" server with the same license?

2. If so, did that server have a site license?

3. Put the "old" server back online for your classes until you can get this resolved on the "new" server.

1.  That is what I have to verify with the vendor what was the original version.

2.  We have had a site license all along

3.  The old server has been formatted and reused so that is not a possibility.

I feel we need to get our hands on the original downloaded media and download it from the Web on the new server.  I think the .dat file is causing the issue.

If you login to your online account you should see all of your purchases and you can re-download. I can see this on my account. Everything you need should be there.

Why would anyone reformat an old server? It's old so archive it incase you need data from it. Unless you are "Hillary" 😟
