mp4 thumbnail images not showing automatically in Project Media

Douglass-Ray wrote on 11/4/2022, 5:32 PM

I use both mts and mp4 clips in my Vegas Pro 19 projects. mts thumbnail images are displayed in the Project Media window, of course. But almost all of the mp4 thumbnails only show the clip name with a black image. In order to make the clip image appear, I have to hover over the mp4 - and when I move away, it turns black again. Of course the clip works fine when put on the timeline. But it's impossible to find a particular clip visually among hundreds of mp4s in Project Media. Isn't there a way to show them all?

Which build of Vegas Pro 19?
The graphics drivers are up to date?
Please update in Vegas Pro under Help / Search for driver updates

walter-i: Thanks for your suggestion. My Vegas Pro 19's build is 643. In "help - Check for driver updates, NVIDIA Ge force GTX 1060 (System version 512.15) came up, and no updates were indicated (neither downloads or changes). I also checked the device manager, which showed that the last NVIDIA update was on August 23 of this year.

1, hundreds of mp4s for a project really too much;

2, go to the path and delete all the thumbnails so that VEGAS creates only the necessaries for your project as it starts.

Thanks for your response, but I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean I should remove the thumbnail images of MP4 and MTS clips so the clips are only identifiable by their numbers in the Project Media window? If so, how can I identify the clips I'm looking for in the bins to insert in the project?

Once you have deleted the thumbnails Vegas will remake those required. It is possible that there were corrupt or unwanted files present. Well worth a try.

With hundreds of files maybe consider breaking your origonal project into a nested project. Much easier to work with, easier to make alterations / correction plus easier rendering.

Good luck

+1
When I have longer projects, I make about 10 - 20 minutes long individual projects and merge them at the end with Nesting. It's much clearer, easier to handle and if something needs to be changed in a single project, it's also easier.

Thank you for these suggestions. They do make sense, and that's what I'll do moving forward..
