Mute Audio in Vegas 9

sgiovanni wrote on 4/2/2015, 8:15 PM
I've imported my video into Vegas 9, and I can mute it just fine during playback, but I want to be able to select a portion of the video to mute the audio out (think of it like bleeping out cuss words).

Everything I've tried after reading the help menu seems to just mute during playback as opposed to muting what will be outputted to a new video.

Thanks in advance.

Insert / Audio Envelopes / Volume

On the timeline, Right-Click and insert four points on the dark blue horizontal line. Grab the line between the middle two points and drag it down to infinity to mute. Adjust the outer points to silence just the audio you need to mute.

Thank you for the reply, but I don't quite follow. Please see the screenshot below to see what I'm looking at, could you draw an arrow to where I should be looking? I tried right-clicking on the "Voice" line in the timeline but didn't see how to do what you said:

Here's a good tutorial on how to do a volume envelope. This should solve your problem.

Vegas Pro also allows you to enter a Mute envelope. This may be easier than the volume envelope.

To mute audio in Vegas ... oh let me count the ways.

One of my favorites to mute an entire event is to drop the "gain line" (hover over the top the audio event) to the bottom (Infinity). This keeps the "live track" in place for reference or use later. I find this better and faster than deleting a particular event's audio track and easier than "ducking" the audio envelope.

More recent versions of Vegas also have the ability to adjust audio volume by making a selection and then pulling the audio envelope line "up" or "down". Vegas then automatically makes the necessary "four points" for the audio envelope .

Thanks for reminding me of muting by selection. That feature was available in Vegas Pro 9.

just tossing this out there, i found a nice way to censor audio is to reverse the audio.
