.MXF 1440x1080 has a problem on Time Vegas V.23

MyChain wrote on 11/14/2025, 2:03 AM

Hi

I imported a .MXF (1440x1080) file recorded with a Panasonic P2 camera into Timeline Vegas Pro 22 (build 250) and V.23 (build 302), it became square . However, versions 14 (build 161) and 18 (build 527) worked fine.
Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Note: I imported the file from the Device Explorer window.

Here's a link to download File

@MyChain Select all media in Project media tab, mouserightclick and change in properties the pixel aspect ratio from 1.0 to 1.33.

Thank you very much for making it work.
But I still don't understand why Vegas Pro V.22/V.23 converts the file to square format instead of normal size.

@MyChain It's just a quirk of these Vegas versions, in time sometimes these bugs get fixed, sometimes they don't.

I've used a few different editors over the yrs & all have had problems recognising some media's PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), some work fine & some show incorrectly as yours does.

Why? We don't know & most likely never will, all we can do is correct the mistake the best we can as 3Point has suggested 🤷‍♂️👍

@MyChain Since square pixels have been introduced, older formats that didn't use square pixels like DV and HDV are probably already forgotten, I don't know. Even in Davinci Resolve, I have to tell DR that HDV (1440x1080) should be interpreted with PAR of 1.333 and not 1.0.
