@Reyfox - Really? They’d have to pay me to use NBTP7. I’ve gone back to NBTP5. And that Refocus? Yeah, right it’s FREEEE….. ColorFast2 has been their only glimmer in their twilight. NB needs to start making new Plugs. Desperate times. Oh yeah, IMHO.

@Grazie Refocus is free. TP7 I've thought about. I do have TP5. Since I am considering Stream, maybe having TP7 will help if I have to re-edit a stream. I've found TP easier to use than Boris Title Studio.

@Reyfox - OK, Yes, FR is free, I did say that. TP7 doesn’t show our Videos as a live Background in the TP7 Workspace, the screen goes BLACK when rolling the video. When I first saw this I couldn’t believe it. TP5 reveals the underlying video. TP5 is what I’ve gone back to and reveals the Background Video, and yes, BST is a handful and not as GUI-friendly as TP5. But TP7 has become horrid compared to the ease and GUI friendliness of TP5. I’ve got strong opinions about this recent Marketing, but I won’t share them here.

Anyway, it’s your $99. You should try and get a Demo.

NewblueFX has been repackaging the same old line of plugins for over ten years, giving the impression as if they are new....... in fact nothing is new or improved !

They need to stop this charade and become innovative again and start making new and modern plugins. Don't even start on Newblue Titler, yes it is filled with a lot of potential, but its a bit too unstable for me to invest in, so i just stay away from it...... So that REFOCUS offer means nothing really, its the same filter that was a part of their Video Essentials 2 packaging from many years ago.

Grazie wrote on 9/21/2021, 2:56 PM

@Photo_G - I’ve never thought of that.

@Steve_Rhoden - Thanks Steve. You’ve nailed exactly my experience and awareness of NewBlue. Very very sad.

I posted it here because Refocus is free. There are those that do not have it and it costs nothing. All they have to do is take a look, and if it's worth the time, download it. As for TP7, I have TP5 and Boris Title Studio with Continuum Complete 2021.

The reason I mention TP7 is because of Stream. I think I read where if you want to edit a saved Stream, you need TP7? Not sure on this.

I've had the all Video Essentials (1-7) along with some of their transitions and effects in another program for almost 10 years. Yes, they are recycling and creating "new" groups of the same effects. They are "old" for "us", but "new" to those that are just getting started. That is who I think they are marketing their products for.

For those considering the TP7 sale, also note that the After Effects file import feature is not included. I almost pushed the button before noticing this, since it's listed under Import/Export features, but clarified in other places like the the Feature Comparison table, etc.

Interesting catch T,

I just D/L and installed, the 8 filters works fine on my VMS16P but also slips in few other NB's I have from Corel but those are with big X on them. The Color Replace has no X but strange unpredictable useless influence.

Thanks for the tip! I got it Refocus for free. I also have TP7 Ultimate, and it's a handful. I'm especially challenged with their 'credit roll,' which does a nice job, but it's a hassle to use. It will occasionally save unwanted changes despite hitting the red 'exit' X. Saving titles can be iffy too. Keeping lots of backups on an external drive (when using NBTP7 Ultimate) has saved me many times. I also like Bluff Titler, but it can be tricky to use too.

Reyfox wrote on 9/22/2021, 8:32 AM

I downloaded the trial of TP7 and it overwrote TP5. Upon uninstalling the demo, TP5 would not work and I would get an error window. I had to reinstall TP7 demo, then use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall everything, then reinstall TP5. Now all is well. But I think there should be some documentation that it will overwrite TP5. Not sure if that happens with TP6.

@Den24601 it has been reported here that video does not appear in TP7 window, is that the case with you also?

@Reyfox, All versions of Titler Pro overwrite other installed versions. Otherwise, you'd have to recreate your titles every time you updated to a new version. To get the older version back, you just need to reboot, uninstall, and reinstall - that's the best way.

It has been reported that the newer version is not showing the background upon playback. Please do note that it will only show the background image when used as an effect on an event anyway. When used as a Generated Media, it never has.

Photo_G wrote on 9/22/2021, 8:49 AM

@Grazie I see what you mean! I'm glad to see that it shows the video background when it's paused though. That makes it fairly easy to advance the timeline and see the static overlay in conjunction with the correlated frame of the underlying video. At least that way, clearly indicates the intro/outro points in the video on either side of the pause, but this only works if it's added as a vFX (not if it's added as a Media Generator).

Den24601 wrote on 9/22/2021, 8:53 AM

Per NewBlue's TP Help regarding Vegas:

"Note: Titler Pro's View > Background > Video from NLE option is not available when you create a Titler Pro graphic as a media generator."

No, it doesn't appear, but I was forewarned by NBTP's Vegas Help section. It would be great if they fixed that, but I knew about that shortcoming before purchasing. However, I do often have problems with saving / naming titles. Turning off Sharing helps, but there's still some issues.

I wasn't aware it overwrote TP5 (which I also own) though, and likewise, haven't seen an explicit warning about that. However, TP7 Ultimate produces impressive titles when it works and learning curve isn't excessive.

Grazie wrote on 9/22/2021, 8:58 AM

@jetdv - In the NBTP7 Workspace. You can't Sync your Video inside the NBTP7 Workspace. There is a Control that "purports" that it will, but it doesn't.

Please do note that it will only show the background image when used as an effect on an event anyway.

@jetdv - Once you leave the NBTP7 Workspace. The same Workspace has a control that should allow you to see the Background Video whilst you're developing Ideas. It doesn't. It's been raised with NB Support for months and months. This is pointless!!

When used as a Generated Media, it never has.

@jetdv - And again, Edward, it is using it was intended, in the previous NBTP6 and NBTP5, to develop creative ideas from within the NBTP Workspace WITH the Background Video playing. I don't understand why you persist in ignoring the failings of this once great Titler?!

Grazie wrote on 9/22/2021, 9:05 AM

@Grazie I see what you mean! I'm glad to see that it shows the video background when it's paused though.

@Photo_G - This was not the case in the previous NBTP versions. You could PLAY the video and SEE what you were doing and the creative ideas could flow from your content. Now, it's as dumb as any nonspecific Titler.

That makes it fairly easy to advance the timeline and see the static overlay in conjunction with the correlated frame of the underlying video.

@Photo_G - Again, this is provided for in ANY of the usual TExt Generators. There was a time when you could see and work within the Workspace at the same time.

At least that way, clearly indicates the intro/outro points in the video on either side of the pause, but this only works if it's added as a vFX (not if it's added as a Media Generator).

@Photo_G - Putting lipstick on a porcine - it's nutz!

NBFX Titler Pro used to have an advantage over BorisFX's Title Studio in that NBTP used to display Vegas Pro's background timeline event in its UI (TP5) even if it was used on an upper track on a black solid color event. No more for some inexplicable reason. NewBlueFX seems to have destroyed their advantage by adopting BorisFX's process that can't call upon a lower video track in Vegas Pro - even though it used to be able to do that before.

@Grazie, I'm just pointing out some facts. Not everyone realizes it would never work as a Generated Media but would have to be a effect to show the background video.

It also helps to uncheck "Close Media Files when not the active application" in the preferences. This allows the Vegas Pro preview screen to be properly updated as changes are made to the titles. Then you can also scroll through the VEGAS timeline (even with Titler still open) to see the changes there as well. I don't recall the Vegas timeline cursor ever following the Titler Pro cursor. But you can move the cursor on the VEGAS timeline with the Titler window still open and see the changes.

I just did some new testing and added Titler Pro 7 as an EFFECT to a clip. The background image DOES show in Titler Pro exactly as expected. I can move the cursor back and forth on the timeline in Titler Pro 7 and the background image will properly update. The only thing that does NOT work is showing the background image if you press "Play". But you can easily scroll to all areas of the title and see the proper background image displayed.

Yes, it is known there are some issues that are still being worked on. But overall it seems to be working very well. The background image is definitely showing on my system - when used as an effect and when paused/scrolling through the title.

Oh yes...I can't recall the amount of hours lost with NBTP. again and again the same issues: the titles would render in low rez, no matter how many recache operations or setting changes - it was a pure lottery to hape that the render would turn out Ok. The other day it even deleted the whole upper half of a lower 3rd, and relocated others 10 sec to the right...bummer on a 30min render that takes 90min to wait til you see the result..and then start again! ( same ith 4,5 and 6 too). I seriously cannot work with it anymore , one of the resons I now got V19 is to get the Boris titler.

@Mindmatter I've personally not have any lower third motion titles render in low resolution with TP5. @jetdv reports good behavior.

I tried the demo, it overwrote TP5 (I was not aware that would happen), and it would not appear in VP18. The SAL worked. Boris has it's issues too with live playback in the UI of video, but I already have Continuum Complete 2021, so really don't need it. If TP5 works with Stream, I'll be good.

@Reyfox, all versions of Titler Pro install into the same folder and overwrite each other. If this did not happen, you would have to convert every title between versions of Titler Pro. Titler Pro 1 and Titler Pro 2 installed separately. If you had a product with Titler Pro 1 titles, moved to a new machine, and only installed Titler Pro 2, all of your Titler Pro 1 titles would disappear. That was a big issue so all versions since version 2 install into the same location as version 2. Then the updated titler will read the older titles and just continue along. I typically do recommend doing a reboot, uninstall Titler Pro, and then install whatever version you're wanting to install next just to keep things cleaner. There are instructions for doing a "clean install" too.

If any product "does not appear in VEGAS", the first thing to try is clearing the cache in VEGAS. That's a really important step to try first.
