Need your experience and Advice! About to Buy a new Computer System.

Hi Everyone, so here is my situation. I'm finally ready to buy a serious computer system. Currently using a Dell Laptop with 12Gb RAM and it seems to render in a reasonable amount of time but obviously no graphics support / CUDA, etc.

So the questions are:

1. Do I buy a beefy MAC? If so, where? How to get a mac with lots of CPU, RAM and minimum 1Gb graphics card (CUDA, etc). Apple Store doesn't cut it.

2. If Mac, do I go the Boot Camp / Windows 10 approach? Does it counterfeit itself, in other words does it hog all the resources?

3. If I go strickly PC, what do you recommend for CPU, RAM, Graphics?

I essentially want to Render videos and have them zip across the screen and complete fast.

Thanks!

If Vegas is your priority then I would stick with a PC rather than a Mac.

I made this thread about my last build, now over 2 years ago, but much of it is still relevant. Since then M.2 drives and SSDs have advanced compared to HDD, so bear that in mind.

For CPU, I would recommend the fastest i7 you can afford. Re. GPU, read this. It links to a couple of specific graphics card suggestions.

This is awesome Nick. Where can I build this online and order?

You wouldn't want to build exactly that spec as it's now out of date. For example the CPUs have moved on and the motherboard now has a Mk2 version etc.. Mine was built here in Bangkok. Newegg is a popular website amongst forum members for buying components to do a self-build. I don't know about system builders in other countries who could build a PC for you.

Depends what you term "affordable". Here's what I wrote yesterday but the recommendations are for certainly not what I would call a cheap computer: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/new-machine-for-2017--105168/
