New freeware transition

sdmoore wrote on 3/23/2003, 8:11 AM
Hi,

I've created another transition that was requested by a few people here. It blends between clips based on the luminance of a specified bitmap (I believe it's similar to SpiceMaster?)

It is a beta version so let me know if anything's not right or if it needs any improvements and I'll see what I can do.

Get it here http://www.endor.demon.co.uk

Cheers,

Scott

Kudos, Scott...

This is very nice... I have a bazillions of gradient PNGs from the P*nnacle software that I'm converting into BMPs.

...a big THANKS!

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if you saw on my 'website' but you can install GDI+ to get support for the other bitmap formats. It's only a 1MB download - the link is on my website.
When you run it a dll called gdiplus.dll is extracted - all you need to do is put it in the Vegas Video program folder.

Cheers,

Scott

PS. Marquat - could you send me some of the bitmap's you say don't work? My email address is in the about box on the plugin properties.

Wow, this is great - many thanks for making it available.

I've quickly tried it with a couple of BMPs and it seems to work just fine for me.

Only slight problem I've found is that although I do have the .NET Framework installed the "Files of type" box still only allows me to select .BMPs (rather than the .gif .jpg .png etc that the webpage suggests should also be supported). I'd guess this might be because I'm still running Win98SE rather than WinXP.

It's no real hardship to have to prepare a BMP version of whatever image one wants to use to control the disolve, but it would be even nicer if you could use the jpg or gif or whatever form you have the image in already.

Thanks again

Mark

Hi Mark,

Actually, I think I am wrong about GDI+ being part of .NET Framework - I think it is just part of XP. However, you can install it by getting it from the link on my webpage.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi... I download both SMcubes and luminance and clicking on both I get the message 'Vegas Video is not installed'.
sdmoore wrote on 3/23/2003, 10:49 AM
Marquat, I've tried those images you sent me and they work OK for me! but I am on XP. I'll keep looking into it.

btw. I have just discovered that those not on XP should be able to read .gif, .png and .jpg as well as .bmp so I've uploaded a new version to my website.

All those pictures you named are wall papers I think. Anyway, this is awesome, thanks so much.

GDI+ does seem to be part of .NET Framework, in that on my system I found the gdiplus.dll file (exactly the same version as that installed by the link you gave) in the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 directory.

But it doesn't actually seem to do any good there - it wasn't until I copied the gdiplus.dll from there into the Vegas directory that the extra file types were displayed in the "Files of type" box.

Anyway, now that I have copied the gdiplus.dll file to the Vegas directory everything, including all the extra file types, seems to be working just fine (I've updated the plugin to the 0.2 version too).

The more I play with this the more useful I can see it is - I've never been much of a fan of the use of transitions myself, preferring just to stick to straight cuts and simple fades and crossfades, but I can see myself making quite a bit of use of this one.

Thanks again

Mark

Well just see what if anything would happen I copied the DLL linked on your web page to the Vegas home directory and I STILL get the same error message trying to install both, each claiming Vegas Video is not installed which of course is silly.

I'm running XP and there are already THREE versions of this dll in Windows/winSxS/

5.1.3197.00
5.1.3100.00
5.1.3101.00

on my PC according to Windows built-in search utility.

Scott,
I'd like to post a link to these from the Sundance Media Group site, but can't locate an email for you so I can chat w/you about it.
Will you please mail me at dse@sundancemediagroup.com?

Hi BillyBoy,

That dll link on my webpage is to add support for more bitmap formats to my plugin and has nothing to do with the installation of the plugin itself. If you get the 'Vegas not installed' message it means that the registry key pointing to the install location for Vegas is missing. Someone else had this problem but was able to put the key in manually. I'll update the installers so that it will still let you install the plugins even if this key is missing.

Cheers,

Scott

Great work again scott. :)
sdmoore wrote on 3/23/2003, 2:36 PM
OK. I've updated the installers - you should be able to install them now.
Tyler.Durden wrote on 3/23/2003, 3:31 PM
Excellent, Mr. Scott...

The plugin opens PNG files just fine!

Thank you VERY MUCH!!

Marquat,
I think your "textures" files must be from a Paint Shop Pro install. Makes sense?

That fixed it. Thanks. Nice plug-in.

I installed the transition without a problem, but when I installed the GDI and tried to start vegas it tried to install it...the same problem a lot of people are having. How do I fix this? I installed the newer version but it didn't solve it. Thanks

Elias, I'm not sure I understand your problem. What OS are you using? If it would be easier to show me the problem you can email a screenshot to me at scott 'at' endor 'dot' demon 'dot' co 'dot' uk

Thanks Scott. Well I just found that I only have the problem when I try to open existing movies. If I open a new document it runs ok. Or if i open the file from a new document it is ok. I thought this was kind of bizarre and it started happening after I installed the transition. I take back my other statement about it being ok before the GDI because I didn't try to open an existing movie. Well, I'm on XP. And when I try to open, it starts initializing installation. Asking for a disk and all. I'll try uninstalling the transition, see if that fixes it. Thanks for your interest. I'll get back to you.
sdmoore wrote on 3/23/2003, 7:18 PM
Ummm, there is no uninstall for the plugin (note to self - I must get round to putting uninstall in 8o). If you want to remove it manually, open a command prompt window in the "Video Plug-Ins" folder and run this command - regsvr32 /u SMLuminance.dll. Then you can just delete the SMLuminance.dll file.

Incidentally, WinXP already had GDI+ so you shouldn't need to install it. Maybe what you're seeing is the Windows File Protection kicking in trying to undo 'non-Microsoft-authorised' system file changes?

Martyh,
I just read your post and I am a burned out Pinnacle customer. Is there a easy way to do this? I was wondering if I imported them to photoshop could I then save them as bmp or jpeg format? I never thought of it. would be nice to get something out of those programs.

Thanks
Tyler.Durden wrote on 3/23/2003, 8:55 PM
Hi Bear,

I can't remember exactly where I got them... (I do not use sharing services...kazaa, et.al.) I was scouring the net and found Studio, HFX & Pr*mier and Deko lying around so I tried them... :( Deko is good, tho.

Anyway there were folders named NTSC and PAL that had tons of those gradients, so I kept them.

Turns out, Scott's plug-in reads the files fine... no conversion needed. (BIG smile)
