New Intel 2.93Ghz Quad-Core

Intel has launched a new Quad-core processor, the QX6800. It is identical to the QX6700 except it runs at 2.93Ghz instead of 2.66Ghz. This negates the performance advantage in single threaded apps that the 2.93Ghz dual-core had over the QX6700 quad-core. Below is a link to a review where they used Vegas to benchmark the speed of the new chip.

Thanks for that link John. It seems clear that if somebody was spec-ing a "money is no object" system today, that this processor would be the central player. for good or bad, I'm not in that boat right now. :-)

It'll be interesting to see what's available in a couple of years when I'll be due for an upgrade.

Yeah well, we have two QX6700 machines which we built less than three months ago. Their reign as fastest PCs money can buy didn't last long enough. I knew they would become "second tier" sooner or later, I just wish it had been at least another month longer. :)

Tell me about it.
I just got mine a week ago and it's obsolete already :-O

You girls violated the cardinal rule of shopping... once you buy, stop shopping.

(and stop reading ads, checking prices, evaluated specs, etc for at least a year when you start spec'ing you next system)

yup.. always sooner,, thats why my main edit machine is built around a hand me down from my son,, who always has to have the latest machine,, I am now editing on a 4600 x2 which he got bored with with for the intel 6600,, but on easter he was tellin me his gettin a quad,, so I'll add a new 6600 in a week or two,, probably have the quad by november or so:)

I posted this at least once already:

WAIT until after April 22 before you purchase an Intel processor. There are marked price drops scheduled at that time.
