New keyframing tool for Vegas

roger_74 wrote on 2/9/2004, 7:39 AM
I have made a script that generates automatic "shakes" for any video event on the timeline.

It's called Vegas Quake. I hope I don't get sued over the name by Sony, the city of Las Vegas or id Software :-) The name isn't important, so I'll call it whatever you like, ok?

It's available at http://www.rmtools.se, free for personal use. Please consider making a donation if you use it commercially, I need webhosting for my tools.

An example of it's usage is available at www.vegasusers.com/vidshare

Very well done! Was everything done in Vegas?

Yes, it's all keyframing, but automated.

Very nice. I've been playing with this for the last 1/2 hour and having a "BLAST". The hardest part is determining the in & out points.
Thank You,
Carl

Excellent! Thanks for sharing the script. It's very convincing.

Neato!

Thank you everyone.

Don't forget to show us what you're doing with it! Good looking titles (moving, not shaking) with enlarged shaking copies of itself with a lower opacity might be nice.

Smashing script interface too! Thanks . . . .

So you're the guy that hooked up BatchRender Pro also, eh? Right on Bro! You and Satish are some Bad MoFo's. Thanks a Lot... Keep 'em coming!

Dude, I've been waiting for this script for seven months! Thanks for finally touching it up and releasing it. A quake filter should have been in Vegas from the beginning -- thanks for filling the gap. Indispensable.

Time flies huh? :-)

It was not so much a touchup as it was a complete rewrite. I've also laid the groundwork for setting the Linear Blur effect parameters on the fly. It can't really be done in a "proper" way, but with some registry tricks I hope it will work. I don't think anyone would appreciate the other option... Storing roughly 18.000 presets in the Video FX pool.

Aaaah, you've done it again. It's right up there together with Batch Render Pro. Great job!

Update: I just played with it. Having the shake match the beats of a bass drum in music is very easy to do and works perfectly. Looks goooood. I've tried this manually before and this script saves a LOT of time. Five out of five stars!

Nice script dude!

Was wondering if you could add the ability to "build dynamic ram preview" and "selectively prerender video" option to this script. Since my pc is not up to snuff I have to go either of these routes by default. Plus on a smoking fast system this would keep the resources in check. Thanks again for your hard work.

Oh, I just thought of an addition. The quake works in X- and Y-axis. How about trying to make it work in Z-axis too? And while you're at it, implement additional options to make it work only in X or only in Y. Maybe on-off-checkboxes for the different axis'es? Keep in mind that I do love the script already! :)

I agree, the demo looks very cool. But, every time I try to open the installer I downloaded and saved, I get this error message:

The .NET Framework is missing or is the wrong version. Install the latest version before you install this application.
You need at least .NET Framework v1.1

I have no idea what they're talking about. Could someone please help me out?

I got the same message:(

You have to install the Microsoft .NET framework before you can run any script in Vegas (and that probably also means this installer needs it to).

According to the Sony FAQ on this

The .NET installation is available by visiting

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" :-)

I have a serious amount of work to do at school, but I'd like to see those features too!

Other stuff I've thought of:
Higher displacement limit (200 pixels might not be enough for high-res work)
Rotation factor (it's fixed at a very low setting in the current release)
And of course, individual settings for each axis. The only trouble is keeping the user interface clutter-free. Perhaps I'll slap an "Advanced" button on there.

And keep the suggestions coming!

Edit:
Btw, is the overlap problem a problem for anyone? The program doesn't behave with overlapped events in your selection. I can't really promise that I can fix that particular "feature", especially not for linked tracks. But I'll try.

stormstereo: Having the shake match the beats of a bass drum in music is very easy to do and works perfectly.

How about having the effect work on all markers? Or regions? Should be easy to do. Which do you guys prefer, markers, regions or both? The way I see it, on each marker you would apply the shake for the length of the timeline selection. In a region the length would be the length of the region.

roger 74, many thanks, very cool.

I agree completely. Make it so. :-)
stormstereo wrote on 2/11/2004, 12:45 AM
Roger: Yes, that would be even better. But make it optional, like a checkbox for "apply to all markers". For example, lets say I have 25 markers where I want the quake. On five of those markers I want the quake to be longer. The procedure would be to apply the same length to all 25, then uncheck the checkbox and apply the longer effect to the five one by one. (?)

I agree on all other suggestions you've made.
