I have plenty to say but I'll just say this: As long as BudWzr and his "great mind" remains on the forum, I will follow the administrators advice and ignore him, in fact, I will take it a step further and ignore the entire forum. This will give BudWzr the "room to breathe" that he desires which will be "a good thing for the health and longevity of the forum." This is not the only Vegas forum on the Internet and the others in which I participate have moderators that actually moderate.
I'm sure you guys will learn a lot from BudWzr, after all, he's a rule-breaking, creative, visionary, video editing rebel and according to him, many of us are just "army-boots, editor-in-a-booth, cubicle dweller pros" as he stated in this thread. However, before you guys take his advice too seriously, you should probably know that he thinks all of you are idiots as he stated in this thread.
(Note to self: you can call an entire forum "idiots" just days after you arrive, but you can't call any single one of them an idiot. I learn something new every day. I also always thought you need to thoroughly know and understand the rules of an artform before you could start to break them. Just shows what I know.)
Now I'm done. It's unlikely that I will have anything further to say here on this or any other subject.
OK, on the soap box; John, I'm repeating what you already know, but letting an individual push your buttons to "win" and leave the forum just "empowers" them more. Are you going to leave your home or job because some minor insect buzzes around your head....... well, I guess more like someone drives thru your town cruising on a empty gas tank?
If you ignore Bud (like most do) then he will either get with the program.... or disappear. The only thing you do by high-lighting his posts, words, and his movements... is high-light him. Why are you doing that??
I don't read anything that's not of interest to me. My time is more precious than that
"I don't read anything that's not of interest to me. My time is more precious than that."
Rob that might be a great solution for you, but this really isn't about ignoring a certain user or someone getting their buttons pushed or BudWzr “breaking all the rules” to create his amazing interview with Evander Holyfield. There are some on this forum who have the experience to know when to ignore a post and write it off as crap. But for those true newbies who come here looking for answers, what they get from the self-described hobbyist BudWzr are misinformed opinions disguised as facts. As long as there are only “administrators” and not “moderators” on this forum, those who misinform the membership will continue to get away with it and those who are here looking for help will not be served at all.
Quite a few of the forum members here are professionals who make a living shooting and editing video. This is their livelihood, the way by which they earn a living to care for their families. They participate in the forum as serious businessmen offering help to their peers as well as newbies and even hobbyist type editors.
When a newbie comes into the forum and treats it as a game for his own amusement, insults the professionals who have previously been polite and helpful to him, (even giving him the benefit of the doubt about his excuses for his admitted poor behaviour), and then
he shows his appreciation by creating the "Holyfield" video which turns out to be a hoax and a tease wasting everyone's precious, (and billable), time it is not surprising that frustrations grew to the limit.
This should have been stopped when the "Holyfield" scam was first posted.
I don't believe there are many members here, (including most newbies), who are interested in playing childish games.
john, ignore the moron. i have had to teach such pretentious, self-important pip-squeaks from high school through to university - everyone a wannabe who made a great display of 'breaking the rules' without even knowing what they were in the first place.
the world, and especially the web is now full of self-professed 'experts', 'new bloods', and idiots ever ready to impart their (lack of) knowledge.....
budwzr, if you haven't anything worthwhile to contribute, don't. better to remain silent and learn than to boldly show your ignorance.
I think that everyone here should have to post using their real names. Posting with an anonymous user name just encourages people like BudWzr into thinking they can get away with anything they want.
And that's why, Jeff, a very few of us use our real names. This was a hot button several years ago--big discussion. That was the time some switched to using their real names.
It isn't necessary to use a real name for posting, but everyone's real name should get posted on their profile . . . for the inquiring minds among us... (grin)
No real name in the profile, no posting privileges. . . simple enough; I'd even volunteer to become a greeter or sorts ... I don't have much technical experience or knowledge to contribute here, but I am willing to help keep the environment safe for those who do...
Just a thought ... not to resurrect an old discussion that has been solved to the agreement of all (or so it appears). . .
I think the issue here is that this forum has such a wide-gamut range of users -- everything from decade-long forumites who have a clear sense of both how to behave and what to ignore, to the complete newbie who may very well be cutting their internet discussion teeth on this very forum.
In light of that, I feel we have to respect that the primary purpose of a Sony-sponsored, Sony-hosted forum is to provide a solid benefit for users of Sony products. Nothing else. Leave the drama at the door.
I think that everyone here should have to post using their real names.
Guess you guys weren't around when a disgruntled user on another NLE forum hacked their member database and made hundreds of personal threats using the information. He threatened to drive to my house from another city to "settle" his complaints. He knew our names, addresses, phone numbers, occupations and ages as well as email addresses. He was eventually convicted.
Promoting your business or service is one legitimate reason for posting your real name and contact information. Outside of that context, it is just plain stupid and sometimes dangerous. The "real name" video help forum we all know about is but a liability waiting to happen.
The " 'real name' video help forum" does not require "addresses, phone numbers, occupations and ages," so it's a moot point.
Well Jay, it requires your real name, DOB, city and state, if we are talking about the same forum. And it exposes your real name to the general public if you choose to register there.
Exactly how my safety (along with hundreds of others) was compromised when that other forum database was breached. There are some other old-timers on this forum who remember the nightmare that incident created.
I don't mind sharing my name, as long as I know who I'm sharing it with.
Yeah, I guess we're talking about two different forums. The one I'm thinking of requires real name (some of which are bogus) and birthdate, which I do not feel obliged to give in any case for posting on a forum (unless they're going to send me new video camera on my birthday). Address can be as general as US or UK, etc..
I don't have any probem with anyone knowing my name. However, I do find it difficult to take someone seriously who hides behind total anonymity.
ya know jeff, YOU don't have the option for people to e-mail you via clicking on your name in your profile. Lots of people who don't put their name down do. I'd say that right there shows you don't REALLY want people to know who you are. ;) Besides... What if a company owns the software? Then they can't be in the forum. What if I lie about my name? Then it doesn't matter. Everybody here could change their name to "Jeffrey Cline" & then what? What about when people DO have the same name? "Jeffrey Cline 2"? What if someone changes their name? Do they then require to show legal proof before they can change their forum name?
To much thought being put in to something that doesn't matter. I already know people on this forum I trust & others I don't. Doesn't really matter what the name display says.
"Well Jay, it requires your real name, DOB, city and state," I agree with misicvid. I don't have problems with SCS knowing my name, but ID theft is a big problem issue in my world. Video editing is an interest to me but 4K work/projects outside of my real profession is where my time is spend. Sometimes I comment on technology issues that could be problematic if people(companies) could connect the dots easily. I avoid naming dropping with a passion which is right the opposite of film and 3D world individuals I meet........ to avoid being a loose cannon or acting too self important. But then again I'm not trying to start a career in the video or film business, yet. ;-)
The point about respect is important, individuals not hiding behind false names for limiting craze talk has some value but this is an open video forum sponsored by SCS, so ID theft concerns outweighs names. SCS has product serials, so legal claims have a "pathway" if such a need arises.
