.mpg file will now import AC3 but I have a problem with some files. BTW, all the .mpg here were created with the Import DVD from the deprecated feature of Vegas Pro 18 (build 334).

Some of the files have the proper length while many others have a length of 13h ish. When I drop in the timeline, the audio is there with proper length but video is 13h long. The playback is fine for the length of the audio. The remaining of the video after the audio are garbage frames, it is a repeat of the first few frames of the clip. Easy workaround is to trim the video at the audio edge. An improvement over 373 but still not there yet.

Looking at the file in Windows, it has the proper length (00:36) and VLC plays is just fine, not 13h long.

Only the files created with "Import DVD" or all MPEG files?

@VEGASPascal Yes, looks like only those created with Import DVD. Same VOB imported from a different app show .mpg files with proper length.

However, .VOB files dropped on the timeline create a new problem. Audio is not complete, does not even cover the first chapter. See screenshot below, track 1 and 2 are from the VOB. Trak 3 is the IFO associated with the VOB. This one show the chapters (markers) but no audio at all.

@VEGASPascal yes, the Video FX window is showing as it was initially released for VP18.

Still hoping for an option to have it appear as it does in VP17, unless I am missing something? 😉

Thanks for asking!

My guess would be the ability to have third-party ones organized by maker rather than just in a single large folder.

While I don't have many plug-ins, if I did it could get unwieldy.

Yes, I would like the collapse folders in VP17 for VP18. They can be expanded to show what's in them.

I can see all the plugins I have at a glance in VP17 (on the left in the image), as opposed to not see even all the BCC plugins in VP18 on the right. I would have to memorize the names of them to quickly access them through the search bar (with is highly responsive).

Someone might ask, why not use the Plugin Manager which gives you sort of the same view as Video FX tab in VP17? Or use Event FX.... Some of the plugins have animated thumbnails to give you an representation of what the effect does. Plugin Manager doesn't.

Also, Plugin Manager takes up "space", especially when other addons are used (HOS for example).

The image below was taken on a 4K monitor. I would dread having to use a 1080 monitor in this situation....

As per @Reyfox I am not all that happy with VP18's Video FX's layout compared to VP17 and earlier. While providing filters like Color and particularly Favorites is great, the loss in 18 of the basic folder breakdown in the 'All' FX list is not appreciated. For example, BCC in VP17 (and other NLEs) is broken down into BCC's unit folders - which is good; but not so in 18 where all BCC FX are listed alphabetically without any grouping via BCC folders. Ditto with NBFX and other 3rd party plugin providers. It really makes VFX selection so much harder.

You can use the filter dropdown to do what the old display did in its tree view.

Reyfox wrote on 1/27/2021, 8:53 AM

@VEGASDerek that is a lot of mouse clicking, and again, not as easy and convenient as the way it's done in VP17 and before.

Maybe I am looking/using the filter drop down wrong, but I can't see how it is like VP17. All I see is a list of FX with a box to check mark, removing them from the display in the Third Party tab.

I clicked to quick and it downloaded and installed 434. Since then Bill Gates has been getting bombarded with error messages as it crashes every 10 minutes. I just had the previous version running sweet as well. Is there a way back or do I just install the previous version? Happy days.

Reset it to default settings? Hold down control + shift as you double-click to start Vegas and clear cache. You'll lose custom settings but not any projects or files or extensions.
