any takers yet?

previous build going ok here, don't really see any benefit to MY workflow at present.

wished they'd sort out / update gpu mess - or should i simply blame nvidia?

btw. just installed it on my laptop (not on my desktop yet). 12 loads much faster than before. don't have any large projects to try it on on the laptop, but as i'm in the middle of a very large project on the desktop, it'll have to wait.
rkbrooks wrote on 11/19/2013, 11:45 PM
Installed the new update. Render speeds are now four times longer than previous version. I wouldn't bother with updating unless you have issues with the previous version.

I am in the middle of big projects so I will need to wait a while...

I visit the forum while in the usual hurry up and wait mode. Grin.

SCS: "Fixed a bug that could cause a crash when dragging a preset chain (filter package) from the Plug-In Manager to an event, track, media file, or the video output."I have the best part of 350 Chains within Plugin-Manager; laid out in 3 Folders; I've just spent a delightful time dragging and dropping-off all sorts of chains from the 3 Folders into 29.970 fps progressive, 640x480x12, AVC, and all is presently solid as a rock. Thanks SCS.

I shall now get back to my "usual" formats and try on them too.

Major flaw after updating to 765 - apart from the increased rendering wait time as mentioned above, rendering MP4 using OpenCL will now cause a catastrophic audio failure.

I noticed that the render will go to roughly 130 frames then for no reason start over at 0 again, which I thought was odd. After the render completed and I check the created file, the audio track repeats roughly the first 10 frames of audio ad nauseum for the entire video. Changing the render mode to CPU Only (instead of OpenCL) fixed this problem. Changing back to OpenCL recreated the problem. It sounds like I'm listening to the beginning of a terrible new Skrillex song.

Argh Sony, Argh.

Updates are supposed to make the product better.

I was aware I could get problems with this new build, so, I made a rendering test with an old project.
I then installed this 765 update, rerendered the same project. No speed issue.
Sound and video are Ok.

Simple question, just in case for me : to switch back to 726 version, we must uninstall VP 765 first.
Shall we get a licence problem when back to 726 ?
Grazie wrote on 11/20/2013, 2:15 AM
Barf, I've completed a Lagarith AVI set and they work fine, the audio is kosher too. But I also notice the 0>xN Frames xN Frames reset ZERO. But the frame counts increments again UPWARDS. However, my audio is fine not repeats(?).

Now doing the MP4 tango. I will report back here on what the Audio is like.

Cheers

DiDequ: "Shall we get a licence problem when back to 726 ?"I've never gone backwards? - BUT, I always now uninstall previous builds prior to installing the latest and never yet got a call for me to call SCS for more licences?

In the middle of project, so I should not update right now, but, hearing "rendering MP4 using OpenCL will now cause a catastrophic audio failure." ; hmm, I'm using OpenCL, and this is not good...

rkbrooks & DiDequ, as for rendering speed, to which format do you export your video to?

Installing and uninstalling so extensive programs as Vegas (DLLs, plug-ins, etc etc) may not always change everything as one might expect - so the only safe way is to make a disk image before installing - so that you can restore your C: drive to a 100% known version.

In (former) Vegas versions even installing and uninstalling old versions could have influence on the newest version you had on the machine.

Edit: before installing the new version (and before uninstalling any version) it is a good idea to reboot the PC. If Vegas has been started it might have a Windows handle or whatever on some DLLs making it impossible to change that DLLs.
Depending on your Windows User rights - but to be on the safe side - it is also a good idea ti install new versions by "Run as administrator".

OPENCL ON and OFF and Auto all working fine here to MP4. Audio not issue, it is spot on.

No complaints . .so far . . .

G, do you use 'Mainconcept AVC/AAC' or 'Sony AVC/MVC' for export to MP4?

Just installed 765 here - and to the posts about speed above I found:

- starting Vegas: absolutely no difference.

- loading a project: absolutely no difference.

- rendering (to my normal formats MC mpeg2): absolutely no difference.

Rendering the benchmark test to XDCAM EX and Mainconcept AVC/AAC showed no time difference between 726 and this build.

rkbrooks, re: render times
What's your source/destination format? If both are XDCAM EX, then it's possible that my fix for XDCAM EX render hangs slowed down your workflow because the solution was to disable smart render for this format. If so, sorry about that but we decided that correct, slow renders were better than fast, broken renders...

barfnuts9000, re: opencl render audio glitches
This problem surprises me. We didn't touch the GPU render code, just the CPU path, and even that was video only not audio. Can you share your source format and destination preset details?

DiDequ, re: downgrade
You do need to uninstall before downgrading. I don't actually know that much about the licensing code, but I think that as long as you are reregistering from the same machine after a downgrade it should be fine.

Hulk, re: render speeds
That's the result I'd expect. The only speed changes I would expect are the EX smart render, which the GPU benchmark project doesn't use anyway.

Chris and Set,

For the current project I have been using the Mainconcept AVC/AAC mp4 format, 1080p for internet. Videos are shot in in HD (60i), are about 8 to 10 minutes long and ultimately uploaded to youtube. Project is a series of videos of a high school marching band field tournament, so nothing elaborate. Anyway, prior to update render worked fine, took about 5 minutes and result was satisfactory. After update, with no change to settings, the same video took about 20 minutes. It also resets the frame count at 130 during render and stops/slows when the render moves from title sequence to the video portion. Can't say what the end result was as I just went back to build 726 and moved on.

@ barfnuts9000

Another user mentioned about updating Vegas after a reboot because some DLL's might not be replaced. I always (after I make clone backups) shut the system down, start it up again, wait until it is fully settled and THEN do the update.

Maybe I am doing a bit more than needed but it always works for me.

Did you do a reboot before doing the update? Did you make a system backup or clone so you will have a way back to what you had?

Upgraded yesterday. I tried it on a recent project and it crashes during render of this project 90% of the time (I have tried the render about 10 times, only one successful). How can I downgrade back to the previous version?

I just rendered a HDV 1440x1080i PAL file to MC AVC 720p (PAL) with CUDA on and the audio is "broken"; sounds like a machine gun.
I am back on build 714 as this is the most stable one for me.

Counting the old way - a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h - build 765 is already the 8th published build of VP12. And it seems according to some peoples experiences that there is soon an need for a 9th build...

Is this a new record - or what? Don't get me wrong - just keep the bug fixes coming, better too often, than too seldom...

But doesn't this simultaneously indicate that the build quality has slowly deteriorated? I remember that VP6 had only ONE bug fix before VP7 was released... And VP6 was rock solid.

The SW complexity has naturally increased with added GPU acceleration, 3D editing etc. - but simultaneously the testing should have been improved and automated to keep up...

Cheers

Christian

Seeing Chris Dolan, one of the actual Vegas programmers responding on this forum absolutely inspires a ton of confidence for me in Vegas Pro. I think the fact that 765 was pulled is a good sign. The powers at be saw some glaring problems and wanted to fix them asap.
