Uninstalled TP4 and added TP7

Thanks for answers. Found 1 small problem with some existing titles. 'slide in/out' did not like .jpg icons. substitute .png and all is well. Back to learning curve. Once again thanks G

Hi,

Just been reading through this thread - but I still cannot understand HOW TO GET A FINISHED EDITED TITLE INTO VEGAS PRO !!

Sorry about the caps, I'm just really frustrated here. I just bought Titler Pro 7 at a discount after reading what it could do and I also have Vegas Pro 20 build 403 (latest build), even though I am still getting emails asking me to "upgrade" to Vegas Pro 20 !!

I have managed to load a title pre-set and edited it and saved it (I believe it saves as an *.nbtitle file (I have my edit saved as Esquel-SAVE_Title 01.cache).

But I cannot, for the life of me, understand how I can get this title effect into a video edit on the timeline in Vegas Pro 20 ! What am I missing here? I get that Titler Pro 7 is going to be a long learning curve, but whilst I can open both Vegas Pro 20 (been using it since Vegas Pro 17.0 and Movie Studio before that) and Titler Pro 7 (opens in it's own window), how do I get anything finished in TP7 into Vegas Pro ?

Any help would be rally appreciated.

Thank you

regards,

Lee

If you are creating the title in TP7 Standalone (SAL), use the 'Save As...' option under the File menu to create an xxxx.nbtitle and save to your chosen folder.

In Vegas Pro, you can either add TP7 to its own video track from the Media Generator window or add TP7 as an FX straight on to the video event on VP's timeline using the event's fx icon (which opens the Plug In Chooser).

Once TP7 is on VP's timeline using either of those methods, use TP7's 'File/Import/Designs' option to import the saved xxxx.nbtitle from the folder where you saved it in the SAL.

@Lee-James there are online tutorials on how to use TP7. You have to spend time learning how to use the software.

First, are you using the standalone or using it as a plugin in Vegas. If as a standalone, you can FIle>Export>Movie file.. the file (after it has fully cached) as a MOV file and use it over any video. You have to chroma key and use the picker to select the black in the MOV file. I do this often. You save your standalone project in a folder, that you can later open again in either the standalone or the plugin.

@Reyfox, no you don't. The MOV file has an alpha channel. That's why the format was initially chosen. It's a PNG Sequence MOV file with alpha. You DO have to have Quicktime installed and turned on to use those MOV files, though.

Reyfox wrote on 6/18/2023, 10:44 AM

@jetdv, every .mov that I've Exported as a movie from TP7 standalone, placing it on the Vegas timeline above any video will only show the title video and "black".

@Reyfox, have you tried right-clicking on that event, going to properties, and then picking one of the alpha channel options there? It may be defaulting to "None" and you simply need to change it to one of the alpha options. There really is alpha on those files.

@Reyfox

Cannot see why you had a problem. Have just taken a sample set of titles created in TP4 and rolled them through TP7 and exported. Simply placed the title above video track and all OK. To be fair my initial tests were with DavinciR. On reading this thread I opened a VP19 project and placed a titles above the video. Again no problem.

I tend to start projects from preset templates (created a while back) and save to the working filename.

My only complaint with TP is that I cannot locate a manual/pdf. Tutorials are plentiful but not indexed.

@diverG I moved to Win11 and with a clean install of VP20, what @jetdv said was the reason why it didn't work like it did for me on my Win10 build, I forgot to set up the alpha channel options of the event.

@Reyfox If I export out of TP7 as .mov, then drag into Vegas the background is black for me too, but as @jetdv says I right click Properties & change if from None to Straight,

Lee-James wrote on 6/18/2023, 6:36 PM

Ok,

I'd like to thank those users here who responded to my cry for help . . .

It seems that I have managed to, at least, place the edited effect that I made, into the Vegas Pro 20 project timeline so it seems to work. Not sure how I did it but I managed it . . .

The tutorial videos are mostly over 3 years old and while I have looked at some of them, they do not help much because they all refer to TP7 (sometimes earlier builds, not like I see in front of me) and there is practically no mention of how I get the effect, once created, into Vegas Pro! That was my biggest complaint.

But it seems that I have managed to at least get one into a Vegas pro project.

Yes, I need to learn more about TP7 and how to use it (I did pay US$99 for it so I want to get my money's worth!) and yes, this will take time.

Initially, TP7 did not show anything in the Vegas Pro effects option. But now when I open Vegas Pro to work on a project, TP7 opens too which is great. I have a good i9-9900k CPU and 64GB Ram and Windows 10 running on a 2TB SSD, so I seem to be able to manage fairly well.

Thank you everyone for chiming in.

Take care,

Lee

@Lee-James, If you add it to the timeline as a generated media, it's automatically on the timeline and you don't have to render a separate MOV file as indicated above. Either workflow is fine, though. It's also available as an effect you can add to a video event on the timeline. If you use it as an effect, you can also preview the video on the Titler Pro timeline.

Jack S wrote on 6/19/2023, 8:19 AM

@Lee-James

Correct, but only if you scrub the timeline. If you play it, you'll get a black background.

@Dexcon Thanks for the plug.

Hello Deacon,

No I didn't. I'll take a look at it though. So glad that much of it works in Vegas Pro 20.

I have a lot to learn :-)

Thank you,

@studio-4 Titler Pro 7 is fundamentally a brilliant plug-in (also works Standalone). I say 'fundamentally' because, although you can get amazing results, in many ways it's extremely frustrating to use. It didn't used to be, but there have been so many builds of TP7, each build introducing more inconsistencies, that it's quite challenging to use.

Usage:- It has its own entry in the Media Generator tab and has only a default preset. It can be added to the timeline in the same manner as the Titles & Text plug-in but it opens in its own full size window (best used with two monitors). It can also be added as an event FX but is not normally used that way.
The learning curve is quite steep (I've produced a number of tutorials about TP7 on YouTube, but most of them are for old builds), but as I have said, the results are well worth the effort.
As a plug-in you can create many titles or lower thirds on your VP timeline. You can also share designs between titles so that a change in the design of one title automatically updates the design of other titles that are shared.

It's not possible to detail all the benefits of TP7 here. Take a look at my TP7 tutorials on YouTube (my channel name is Veteran Video Editor) to get an idea of its potential.

IT's pretty easy to use if you've used other Track Based Motion Graphics or VFX applications like After Effects, Apple Motion or HitFilm. It just has a hard focus on Titling and related graphics design. I use it a lot. It's OpenFX, so it works with almost any NLE (and can export video with an Alpha Layer).

I have a question about NewBlue titler Designer 7...I'm using an animated title template (animated neon) and when I change the text and play it back, it keeps popping back to its original setting. For example, I created the word "Wait!" in the font "Neon Lights" but there was too much space between the W and the remaining letters...when I closed the space and played it back, it keeps popping back to before I made the change. How can I fix this?

Thanks...

I would suggest contacting their support on their webpage. You didn't state which version of Vegas Pro you are using.

Also, in your User Profile, Signature, it would be wonderful if you included your computer specs like mine in my Profile below.
