Hmmm... on further review, I guess you're right. Here's another one I don't think has been mentioned before: "3 point edits." God, I hope that's true!
Of course, it's pretty much a no-brainer that Sony would port the media management tools in Acid 5.0 to Vegas. Ditto with VST support. Maybe that's what put it in my head as something I'd heard before.
Still, I wonder how "accidental" these "accidental" leaks are. I'm beginning to see a pattern here....
I was wondering that too, last year, this year, etc...
BUT
I'm pretty sure that if they had their way, they wouldn't put any of it out there - they being sony, not the programmers. Man I'm sure they've been bursting at the seems just to say what they've been up to lately.
Yes, this was article was not only not published yet, it wasn't done being editing when Dave sleuthed it out. It looks like that article is headed for Digital Media Net. They have been doing a lot more articles on Vegas lately. I'm pretty sure Sony released everyone to talk for the purpsoses of that article and the NDA would not apply. It would be a simple and limited release from an NDA. My guess would be that they released people before the training ever took place last week. George Murphy, the senior director of Nightline has been scheduled to speak about using Vegas at NAB for months now. He's doing an "In-Depth Session" about Using Vegas in the Broadcast Environment. You would figure that Sony would want to promote that Session before NAB so people know to check it out or just to publicize that "Nightline is using Vegas."
> Sony hasn't exactly been very supportive of Vegas, or all of their divisions would be pulling back from supporting of third party competing products.
My understanding of how large multi-divisional corporations work is that each division is expected to meet their profit objectives given to them by corporate. If a corporate executive tells a division General Manager that he/she has to drop third party support in favor of Vegas, and if that division GM tells the executive that their division won’t be making their numbers this quarter without being able to sell the third party software because Vegas does not have the market share or is not in demand by their customers, then the corporate executive backs down! That’s because corporate answers to the stock holders.
So it is very important that Vegas become mainstream so that other Sony divisions can sell it with their particular solutions and remain profitable. If Pinnacle or Premiere is in the hearts and minds of Sony computer buyers, then the computer division is going to respond to that market demand and offer the customer what they want. Successful corporations are not dictatorships. They let the divisions decide how best to compete in their particular market. That’s just how most giant corporations work. I don’t know if Sony works that way, but I would bet they do.
Just off the top of my head, I think that the decklink cards can be used in a 32-bit PCI slot but would much prefer to be in a faster 64-bit slot. I'm probably mangling terms here but you should go take a look at the BMD site for the particulars.
Being able to use BMD cards is great but it also opens the door to big RAID arrays, fiberchannel cards, etc. So, yes, you could spend a lot more money if you want to scale Vegas up that way. But you don't have to.
I'm surely interested in that Lighting DVD by vicmilt - wonder how much it'll cost and if it's any better/worse than the DVD that was being talked about on here earlier this year - can't remember the name though.

I use a BMD card with a small SATA RAID, it didn't cost much. If I was just capturing to a lower bit rate codec, I wouldn't even need that.
I don't use fiberchannel either, no need until I go full HD (and even then there are alternatives).
Vic Milt's DVD is listed at $129.99 on the VASST site.

Dave, you can see a stream of Victor's lighting DVD on the DVD products page on our site. I guarantee, you've never, ever seen a lighting DVD like this one, or your money back. Victor has come up with a brilliant method of lighting, and doing so very inexpensively, not to mention his demonstration of very unusual, and very effective use of traditional lighting techniques. With people in the vid like Dennis Hopper, Sam Waterston, Juan Valdez, and various executives from very successful Boca Raton businesses, and the county prosecutor in the vid...it's gotta be good!
