ok, have downloaded 310.90, but am awaiting yours, and others reports - i really don't have the time for all this driver updating UNLESS i know it's going to work properly.
i think the general consensus is that 296.10 WORK. thereafter odds and ends didn't.
Windoze 7 HP 64bit, 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX570 and NVidia driver v310.90. RAM Preview set to default.
Rendered 1hr video to mp4 last night. In customise settings I chose 'Render using CPU only' and again using 'Use CUDA if available'. On both occasions the video rendered without problem. Using the second option the video rendered in a considerably shorter time although I forgot to make a note of exactly how long.
Looking at the Task Manager during the rendering processes stated above - Memory usage wavered around the 4.5GB mark both times whilst the CPU usage wavered between 98-99%..........around 80% with the CPU only option which surprised me. Note:- all other computer running processes were left running including my AV app. (Kaspersky).
Actually, and giving more thought, it's what it does under regular editing and previewing that's honing to ensure something "better" is going on. Now, who's going to spend 2,3,4 hours on a paid project to do it?
Any takers. Leslie is definitely sitting at the side of the scaffold with his knitting, waiting for the Blade to drop.
We are here, yet again, prodding the beastie and hoping that nVidia has got it right, this time.
okay, took a gamble today and installed 310.90 using the advanced , clean install method supplied by nvidia.prior to this I had stayed at the 290.. driver
so far good news.
no issues found and preview using GPU is working perfectly.
titler pro also works fine with no crashes and a render using cuda to avc also works fine.
magic bullet looks, works with no problems, faster even.
neat video works fine.
windows 7
intel i7- 3770K at 4.3 GHz
16gb ddr
gtx560 TI 448 Core
Intel HD4000 to external monitor.
Grazie, it's very easy.
download the new drivers and save them to your desktop.
switch off all anti virus etc.
run the installer
when given the option to use a) express install or b) custom
choose B) custom install
there is a tick box there to use a CLEAN INSTALL which then removes all trace of nvidia drivers prior to the new drivers being installed. ensure this tick box is checked.
run the installer..
smooth a silk and no issues.
I've even turned the GPU acceleration back on...more testing to do.
cheers John
sorry should have answered your question about preview. its fine no white outs and very smooth even with curves and magic bullet looks( within reason)
tried using mxf, cineform avi, avchd footage, jpegs and using as many effects filters as i can.
not managed to trip it up yet....
long term use will be the test though.
As I told in another thread 310.70 totally ruined my super stable Vegas 11 installation.
After rolling back to the earlier driver it seemed to work - but not 100% - as if something from the 310.70 installation was still hanging around - i.e. injecting earlier frames from the Timeline into later cross-fades - and as if my GPU cards memory got mixed up between different Vegas programs/threads.
Hoping that Nvidia might have solved that severe problem I installed the newest 310.90 - and voila: now everything works well again - so it seems, at least, after having had 3 render jobs running in parallel and without any of the disturbances seen with 310.70.
I will now keep 310.90 - and will NOT EVER be tempted to install anything from Nvidia in the hope to gain a little more CUDA speed.
... there you see how incredible Nvidia is: My very NVIDIA Control Panel / Nvidia System Information says: Driver version 390.90 (ninety) - and that on my very Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit....
Edit: 'night for now - will be back tomorrow after CES opens...
I downloaded and installed 310.90 for 64bit Win 7. I have enabled 8GB of ram preview and in limited testing experienced no problems. Before I had to set it to zero.
Downloaded this morning, installed using nVidias clean install and have been working on some pretty complex layering and compositing using BCC, Pixelan and assorted Sony stuff all day. 12g/ram, 2048/preview. With exception of a fault once on exit, early on, things are stable.
I tried 310.90 a couple of weeks or so ago - it was real bad news.
It kept crashing. The screen would go all pixillated - a bunch of small variously coloured rectangles not touching each other* - each made up of roughly 6x10 pixels. Then when I left-clicked on what should have been a blank area of the desktop I would either get a pop-up which said something like "The NVIDEA driver has recovered blah blah" and things would be back to normal, or the operating system would crash and I would have to reboot.
Didnt matter what program I was running - Vue/Vegas/Sound Forge or even no programme. After a few days of that nonsense I started walking backwards through NVIDEA's updates until I got one that worked. Took about another week to find one that got my rig stable again.
Ended up with 301.42 as the latest driver that will work.

*it was quite pretty, in an abstract art sort of way.
Are you sure they were 310.90? They were just released on Jan/05. I had major hiccups with the previous driver. 310.90 has been running rock solid all day and I've done several renders without exiting Vegas.
Uh oh.... it was 310.something. Unfortunately I didn't keep a record of what it was.
It must have been the 310.70 that came out in the middle of December.
Thanks for the comment.
Now I must work up the courage to download and install it and head back into the unknown.
