Here's the details and yes, it is a paid version.

YouTube Red is a paid membership that gives you an amplified video and music experience across YouTube. There are several features included in your YouTube Red membership:

Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions whenever you sign in to your account on youtube.com or the YouTube app on your mobile device or compatible Smart TV/Games Console.

Save offline: Save videos and playlists from the YouTube mobile app to watch offline when you aren't connected to the internet.

Background play: Continue playing videos on your mobile device while using other apps or when your screen is off.

Free Google Play Music subscription: Included at no additional cost.

If you are a Google Play Music subscriber, you already have access to YouTube Red; just make sure that you're signed in to the same account on YouTube and Google Play. Note that both services must be available in your country for this to work.

Rented and purchased movies or TV shows and paid channel subscriptions are not compatible with YouTube Red benefits.

YouTube is giving Vimeo a good run for its money. Vimeo now annoys me every time I access it wanting me to upgrade to the paid version, but frankly, the unpaid version is crap. You have a maximum resolution of 720p and the encoding is extremely ordinary.

YouTube, on the other hand offers higher resolution, better encoding and other features in the free version. I was uploading some material yesterday and if offered to stabilise my material for me. Wow!

Really looking forward to this as both creator and consumer. It's only for US viewers for the time being though.

Only amateurs use that lame YouTube stabilization. The shakier the footage, the more bizarre the steadiness looks.

One thing that makes Vimeo trump YouTube is the ability to change the video file but keep the URL. That's huge if you want to tweak something without needing to send another link. And stats roll over to the newer clip.

$10 a month seems really expensive for watching ad-free videos. I currently spend $10 a month for a subscription to Photoshop and Lightroom, something I use almost daily and feel well worth the cost. Vimeo Plus is only $5 a month without all of the nags of YT--especially, the music police.
