Adobe's CS3 Suite integration... sounds Sweet!

Sony does NOT compare to this level of integration.
Apple comes close... but still doesn't pull it off like Adobe.

I know Vegas can do a lot of what Premiere + After Effects can do... but with it's loooong Render times (as compared to AE) it's not cost effective to use it for the same things.

I personally don't mind changing a few of the steps in how I work as long as they are Productive. By using the CS3 integration between apps... I can see us all being a lot more productive. For me... there is no learning curve as I already know the Adobe apps. I just chose to use others because I was more Productive with them. But now that they are integrating Capturing, Editing, Compositing, Graphics, Web Design, DVD Authoring, & the plethora of other things I'm leaving out... there workflow just sounds more logical to me.

CS3... Hurry up baby. You've got me excited.

While others are waiting on Renders & re-Renders to do their next step in the next app that doesn't communicate with the first... I'll be Delivering Projects, Depositing Checks from clients, & Sipping pretty drinks with Umbrella's on the Beach.

I will probably always use Vegas for simple/quick edits... but when a project needs to 'Come to Life'... I'll probably be breathing that life into it via CS3's awesome integration. (And rendering only once)

excellent points sync2r...

hey how hard is adobe's NLE to use, compared to Vegas? is PP a better app? I haven't tried it so I don't know.. I've just been using Vegas for 2+ years now..

the workflow integration stuff is key, because time is money.. and if I can organize seamless projects using all the other s/w I already use, it might be worth jumping ship.. though I really like vegas a lot... if I can get faster renders and/or better productivity and workflow using PP or whatever, that would make more sense from a business standpoint..

and it looks like "there's a lot more going on" over at adobe, than with sony.. vegas is obviously a very low priority for this company... (no new announcements, little or no forum support etc)... vegas seems like a 2nd place NLE, based on what I'm seeing?

I would say... wait and try the TRIALS before dropping any money.

I find Premiere Pro to be just as easy as Vegas. I also find that learning the other Apps in the Adobe suite is pretty easy also. But I guess I should preface this by saying that Premiere was the NLE that I learned on in College... so I think this makes it a bit easier for me to understand and navigate. Although Premiere Pro has changed a lot from the old Premiere... it remains very similar.

Adobe has done a pretty good job of making the Apps look & react very similar. Their tools are very similar and so is the GUI. The hardest for me is After Effects. It is similar to an NLE (timeline, FX, Viewer) but media goes on the timeline a lot different. It's taken some getting used to for me, but I'm a big fan of Tutorials. Doing simple little Tutorials on After Effects has brought me into the realm of NOT being scared of it anymore. Also, I know my limits as to what I can and can't do in it. Not because of the program... but because of my knowledge.

I hate that I can't run 2 instances of Premiere Pro or do a Multiple Region Render as I often find myself wanting to Export one project while continuing to Edit another or Define Regions and BatchRender.

I also like the Parent/Child interaction of Vegas... makes for some Easy 3D Space movements of multiple tracks that react together... but separately.

Because I've done a lot of Freelance work hoping to find that awesome Job w/ Benefits, 401K, etc... I edit on Avid Composer & Xpress, FCP Studio, Adobe Production Bundle, & Sony MediaSoftware. -All of these softwares have their +'s & -'s. It just sounds like Adobe is listening a bit better and overcoming a lot of the Shortcomings of the others

For me... if Premiere Pro could do the above 3 things... I would be totally Premiere Pro, simply because of its integration. Not a day goes by for me that I don't touch an Adobe App in my creative process. If Adobe's new Sweet... I mean Suite will help me to make more money with less stress... I'm all over it.

Once again... key point being... Suite integration. I do not see this w/ Sony.

Even if you go the Adobe CS3 route... don't uninstall Vegas! Trust me... you will still go to it. Especially while you're getting up to speed with the CS3 Suite. Even after you're up to speed... there will still be things you'll want to do in Vegas.
