Update.
LG Blueray burner installed flawlessly in Windows 7, no need for drivers or anything else.
An important side effect is that now neither Vegas 9 nor DA5 lockup when a Blueray device is active i.e. this LG burner. I take it that the original built in Blueray player in my PC was not compatible and crashed both programs. The workaround was to disable the BD reader. Sony had acknowledged the problem.
Burned a Ridata low cost BD disc and plays perfect in the LG burner and in my Sony S360 player. All is well for now.

I connected the cables and used DVDA to burn my first blue-ray disks. I paid only $1 with free shipping for the disks (in a cake box of 10). They even played in my cheap no-name disk player in my living room! Get the disks from:

Thanks! I've been shoe-horning 720p content onto dual layer DVD's for a little too long...

This is good to know. Thanks, Stringer.

Unfortunately, I'm still sitting on the fence as to whether or not to get this burner. I have no "commerical" need for it. If I do get it, it would be for burning data Blu-rays, as Perrone has suggested.

Unfortunately, I've found the $1 BD-R disks from Supermediastore that I linked in the above post won't play in some old players owned by my friends. I plan to test other brands
