Let me tell you, Steve was a fantastic man. He was one of the most "genuine" people you will ever meet.
I was so incredably shocked to find out about his death....I still have a hard time believing it. It's probably THE most ironic and strange death I have have ever heard of.....especially for a man like him.
My prayers go out to his family and friends and I grieve with them.
the guy was a showman bigger than life,, hated hearing of the news,, which was a freak accident , everything he did was carefully planned out and relatively safe (i think) no Timothy Treadwell stuff, hate it happened ,thoughts with his family .No offense meant to Timothy Treadwell and family .
As to the stingray thing, well I was pretty amazed to learn that 17 poeple have been killed by them, so this wasn't quite as wierd an event as I had thought. My scuba diving workmate also tells me the poison is very slow acting but very dangerous. In one case a person was hit in the leg, the wound treated and he was discharged from hospital. The next day at diner he complains of not feeling well, stands up and drops dead from heart failure. I'm told the poison is a slime on the barb. The bull rays in tropical waters grow to a very large size so such a strike to the heart from a large ray isn't that hard to imagine.
