OT: DVD REGION logo: Is it trademarked?

Yet another DVD-related OT question from me. One day I'll get back to discussing Vegas!

OK, I'm covered for using the DVD logo by designing my own... and the paperwork is in hand to use the Dolby Digital logo... but what about the DVD Region logo? Is it trademarked? Anyone know?

To be honest, I'd never seen it before. If it's on all commercial DVDs, I've never noticed it. Did you try a web search?

Did a web search and I couldn't find anything about it (that doesn't mean it's not out there).

I did find the following:

Why are there different DVD Disc regions?

This seems like a moot point considering the number of DVD players that can play all regions.

Interestingly enough, I couldn't locate a trademark for it on Brandsoftheworld or the DVD coalition site. I'd be surprised if it isn't, but Brandsoftheworld is usually right on top of the legal issues.

...and knowing that it's possible to unlock a few models that are "locked" with a simple combination of keys on the remote controller...

but in doubt, why don't you design your own logo, starting from some "earth" logo and changing fonts and words for, like, "globe-friendly" (instead of "all") and such for the rest ("1"= "usa/can" with these continents highlited in some way on the small globe logo, etc...).
I know, I know, the example may be cheezy but it's just an example...

Good idea. Thanks for the feedback guys. To be honest I've already done a run of sleeves because I couldn't wait any longer and it's on those. I might design another one for the next run. It's on just about every commercial DVD I own so it's fairly standard. My "PAL" or "NTSC" sits just underneath it. My market here in Phuket is about as international as it gets and you'd be surprised at how many of my customers here ask me if the DVD is region-locked so I need something on there.
