I'm sure Spot will be on with a CES update but I thought this annoucement was pretty cool. Of course I'll believe it when I see it. Revolutionary product if it ships :)
I love iPhone. Finally a better design from the ancient crap we have now. And the $500 is a deal considering it is a phone, and ipod with widescreen video, and finally a user friendly wireless internet browser, and it has real time messaging like blackberry.
Finally, the product I have been asking for for three years.
I've come up with a little device no bigger than a credit card that uses AI to create original music. Once you've composed your piece, you press a button and upload it to the Internet. I'm going to call iTunes. Do you think Stevie will mind?
"With the screen so small, it will be harder to see their lousy work." the youtube uploaders will be hot for this toy. With 2M pic camera uploads demands, cell phones bills will be in lunar orbit, forget skyhigh! Final Cut Pro on the Iphone, the perfect combo for the money blackhole for the wanna-bes.
The iBooth is outright brilliant, if hard to realize perhaps, and the others are just plain funny.
Seems only the amateurs are excited about rendering to iPhones.
Hollywood producers are plenty excited, as they are making good money selling TV shows to at least Verizon and Sprint cell phone customers (that's just in the U.S.), and of course iPod users (50 million TV shows sold just for iPods). I see kids watching cartoons, and grownups watching The Office and more, in unexpected places everywhere.
It's easy to poo-poo a screen just because it's smaller than what's in your living room, but people are prepared to make trade-offs to get access when they're out.
Like GM execs said about self service gas stations, "People filling up their own gas? No way they'll accept that!"
"The iBooth is outright brilliant, if hard to realize perhaps, and the others are just plain funny." A must for every Clark Kent!
A $599 Iphone makes the PSP3 pricing look a lot better. If you must have the Iphone look, then the PSP3 clean look is a must too! For the X360 faithful, an inflatable 1080p HD screen with hookups.
That iBooth would be a great gift, especially for airport use, for malls, for theaters!

Why pick the most expensive version? The regular iPhone is expensive enough at $499, and music and video playback are only two of the many things it can do so why compare it with a no-phone PSP?
an inflatable 1080p HD screen with hookups
That is a real product, I saw it about 2 months ago.
It's an inflatable projection screen of course.
Perhaps you were looking for a roll-out LCD panel, that is probably 1-2 years out, would most likely use LED backlighting.
I like the Clark Kent idea, unless phone booths get a resurgence anyway.
Empty of course, as a place of quiet for your cell phone call :O).
You put in a quarter, this closes the door for 3 minutes, then a voices booms from above, "Please add 25 cents for 3 more minutes."
"Why pick the most expensive version? The regular iPhone is expensive enough at $499, and music and video playback are only two of the many things it can do so why compare it with a no-phone PSP?" Not comparing phones as much as the latest "tech toys" and what people are complaining about cost of tech toys. The iPhone cost will be high, monthly service fees will be expense and a revenue source for the cellphone service providers if the iPhone really sells. The West coast and NY will have only the 599 model, who would be caught owning a cheap one? How many want-n-bes directors, actors, producers, writers will be missing a few monthly payments,(rental, car payments, child support) to own the phone, as a status symbol? The first iPhone knock-off product will do will in this market.
