OT: My first PMW-F3 Project, dog gets bath

MUTTLEY wrote on 8/15/2011, 4:10 PM

Okay, so I used the term "project" pretty loosely for this =)

To be lazy and not be too redundant I'll just post the description that I posted it on it on Vimeo:

Shot this a couple hours ago just for funsies and a chance to play with the new Sony PMW F3, seemed like a good idea in the moment. Turns out that giving the dog a bath and trying to work camera at the same time isn't so easy after all. That said, for the couple hours it took to shoot, edit and toss on the web it's still good enough to make my Mom happy.

Nuttin fancy, technically not my best, would have loved some better angles and there's deffinatly some overexposed moments towards the end, my only defense is that I was holding a wet dog, I was actually just grateful that when I brought up the footage there were enough shots that were in focus to make anything at all.

So yes, technically it's less than brilliant but thankfully a cute dog can make shoddy shooting and editing borderline irrelevant.

Kitty Gets A Bath

Enjoy!

Once again, content is king.

I like it! And I love to see forum participants post "first light" videos of their new equipment. I'm sure (from viewing your earlier work) we'll see great things from the F3.

btw, I wish I had the budget for this camera.

Nice job, Ray! Very entertaining, I've never enjoyed watch a dog get a bath more than in your video. Fun music choice, too. (And that F3 looks great!)

Enjoyed it!

Thanks all, glad it had a slightly broader appeal beyond just me and my Mom =)

And Jerry, believe me when I say it wasn't in my budget either!

I quite enjoyed it although I was rather concerned about putting such a fantastic camera in such close proximity to a dog being washed.

bob,

what was that story about one of your hire cams going through a car wash and still functioning?

Enjoyed it very much Ray

- what a great idea for a first test of a new camera - you can see exactly which hair is in focus, and lots of colour subtleties and a great dog!

Nicely done, sir.

Very nice images Ray, I have always admired your eye for composition.

What were you washing Kitty with? Cream I’ve never seen a dog lick her lips with such enjoyment during a bath, et al.
Very nice cam got a good look and feel with one during a local Mediatech trade fair.

The best part is in the event your career as a film-maker should tank, you have something to fall back on. ;o)

Loved it. Nicely edited, music was a perfect match, footage is beautiful from that camera and that dog just cracks me up.

"what was that story about one of your hire cams going through a car wash and still functioning"

It wasn't even hired out directly by us. We hired an EX1 to another company and their client left the footage on it.

The young turks decided to strip off down a lane way, run along a main road and into a car wash where they took a shower, with camera in hand, you could see the water running down the lens.
The camera did survive.

Then there was the guy who left a Z1 on top of a car. It was very dead.
Another guy had a Z1 on a tripod and his dog on a lead. Dog ran around tripod. goodbye camera.

Had one or two cameras go to the bottom of Sydney Harbour over the years too.

Odd thing is no one so far has wrecked a GoPro.

Thanks all, comments cracked me up as much as the vid. And yes Farss, hence my many disclaimers on the vid about it not being as easy as I thought! It wasn't till right after it started that I realized trying to focus, move the camera or change the iris and/or watch the screen at all was pretty much impossible with a wet dog and wet sudsy hands. =)

Rory, I hadta go look but it was Kong Ultra-Glow Brightening Shampoo!

"...and lots of colour subtleties and a great dog!"Every dog ought to have its own website. kittythedog.com is taken, but kittythedog.net & kittythedog.org are available [heh, heh]

Every dog ought to have its own website.

Heh. I used to live in an art space with 9 other people. They named the place "Merry the Dog" after my dog. That was the name that went onto our show fliers. Websites didn't exist yet.

No, we didn't host any "Merriages". I don't know why but it never occurred to us. Duh.

Merry effing Christmas was her full name.

Anyway, content is king. Put a dog on the screen and you've got me.
