I'm just excited to be going this year. I'm not a "broadcast pro", and NAB will certainly put other tradeshows and organizations I belong to (weva, 4eg) in perspective.

Very much looking forward to the Vegas party, Vegas certification...and the GlennChan Electric Boogaloo.

re: exotic chocolate....isn't chocolate like sex and pizza?

(wait for it...)

Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good...

Seems like any sort of smartrender would entail some assumptions that Vegas doesn't make:

---What is the output format? (it makes no sense to smartrender as DV25 if the output is something else. Most likely smartrender must be to 422 or 444 format)
---where do you write the smartrenders? (good formats need lots of space and disk throughput)
---How do you manage it on the timeline? (even if Vegas did something similar to what it's doing now, it doesn't retain renders adequately. I assume that you'd treat a smart render internally as if it were on an invisible track that was subject to ripple edits. Maybe if Vegas did this it could still use something like its current frame caching, even when writing 444 avi to disk. Just do frames in the AVI and alpha where there is no other info. That ought to make for smaller AVI prerenders using lossless compression)

Better "smart rendering" would be huge, of course. Better hope it doesn't work like Premiere Pro, though. People there with hardware cards are sometimes finding huge challenges as ppro rerenders and then the hardware drivers force ppro to do it all over again.

I don't think I'll make the party this year, but for y'all what do you have to do to make Glenn Chan breakdance again.
Hehehe. You (or someone else) is just going to have to figure that out. And free drinks won't work on me, unless they're non-alcoholic. But then I'd be going to the washroom.

"My guess is that Apple will buy Adobe, Avid will quit developing professional applications and become the new Ulead, Sony will release a new software based camcorder that utilizes any webcam as the front end for recording 4:2:2 uncompressed on a RAID...

Funny stuff, Douglas!

Exotic chocolate...

If you make it to Vegas, make sure you go to the Jean-Philippe Patisserie in the Via Fiore Promenade at the Bellagio. Not only do they have incredible chocolates of all kinds, they have the world's tallest and largest volume chocolate fountain.
