Besides using Vegas,DVDA, adobe cs, Microsoft office, most of us use "less well known" but very useful pieces of softwares. Can the members help educate the rest of us about these softwares I.e., names and what are they used for. Thanks
I noticed there are a few references to various "codec appliances", such as GSpot, MS GraphEdt x86, RadLight Filter Manager & FilMerit, in this thread. Keep in mind that none of them will display 64 bit codecs and other DirectShow filters, only the 32 bit versions.
One of the few tools that shows 64 bit versions of various filters and codecs is:
It's not terribly versatile, but gives a better idea of what's installed and available to 64 bit software on a 64 bit OS. The 64 bit version of Microsoft GraphEdt will also do the same.
BudWzr, if the Sony Forum had an Ignore button I would use it on you. Not because I hate you, or even that you upset me, because you don't. I see you as kind of a nerd or dork or some word like that. That guy at work that everyone makes fun of or ignores. Anyway, there are other people here that annoy me as well, but they do have good contributions to the forum so I let it go. But the reason I would ignore you and your posts is basically because you really don’t have anything to contribute and you really are more like a gnat or a fly buzzing around my food. Inaccuracies, ludicrous statements and bad jokes just get old after a while. If this is how you behave all the time then no doubt your friends have told you this, or maybe your ex-friends are ex because you really don’t have anything to say other than goofy stuff.
I personally have no faith in rehabilitation, because most of the time it just doesn’t work so I have just written you off. That is a shame and too bad that you somehow just don’t fit in, but I wish you did. All of us could use a GOOD joke ONCE-IN-A-WHILE.
So I would ignore your posts knowing that I would never miss anything of value. Isn't that sad.
Harry, you remind me of the old geezer we had to walk past on the way to school and he would erupt out of nowhere for no reason other than hate and bitterness.
All that inner bile just comes up like stomach acid, doesn't it Harry. That's a sad lonely place to be.
Bud, your first response was better and smarter....... but then you just had to just back track. Everyone makes dumb mistakes, the ideal is to limit them as much as possible. And a little ribbing about them is not evil, but it all so helps to remind us that erring is also embarrassing as well as human (or as being apple fanboy). ;-)
But being a public fool is not wise if one wants individuals to listen to them or do business with them in a honorable way. This is where some people just have a better balance response to issues, while others must really work out their responses............. I would suggest that you are in the middle, between theses groups, with some leaning to "limit" instant responses. ;-)
Harold,
You remind me of the guy who sat quietly in the back of the class, waited until the end of the discussion to raise his hand, and then told the truth so simply and eloquently that no one else could respond in kind. And there were always one or two others who were humiliated, predictably.
In other words, you're the kind of guy that the wannabes, posers, and bullies despised.
Thanks for sharing.
John, if you noticed in another thread, when I was wrong I deleted my post and admitted it was the wrong answer. I did this to appease you.
Quite a few people here give the wrong answer, or the right answer to the wrong question, or old outdated answers, and THOSE people are the ones that really muddy the waters here.
At least I'm upfront about it, and I don't cloak myself as a pro, and I'm willing to retract any misleading post.

The regulars here know what he is, the newbies coming here for help don't have this information.
What about the thread that suggested a 5000K VBR render just to play on an iPad?
You "pros" only know bigger is better.
It's not all about big guns and expensive equipment and a lot of rules. What's driving the market is people like me, and the old bulls want to squelch us as idiots.
There's got to be room on this forum for the free-stylers or Sony's not going to get their fair market share. When I visit fringe websites way out there in DJ and club genres, Sony's "make.believe" banners are in the premium positions.
This forum could be on the cutting edge if SCS would section us off like other forums do, and let the pros have their arguments over minutiae, and let the freestylers have their own place.

You think you know what you're talking about and you clearly don't.
please bud, come back when you're an old fart like the vast majority of us here. perhaps then you'll be of interest to us, or maybe not.
you obviously know what's going on out there, you're on the cutting edge so to speak, you KNOW what the people want and aspire to. you obviously know how to market yourself and vegas, and you seem to have great plans for changing the face of video, etc.,
so why come here to all us old timers who don't know fa about the modern world out there and try and lead us to the promised land? after all, you should know by now you can't teach an old dog new tricks. (of course, an old dog can learn new tricks itself, if so inclined).
frankly, like many others here i make a living out of being a boring old fart, one who pays attention to the trivia of production, who really does want to give the client what HE wants, not some 'interpretation' that ' might go down well on youtube..."
you've post over 400 posts since joining 4 some months ago, and unfortunately i've read nearly all of them. i admit you're right out there, and it's somewhere i'd rather not be thank you.
Gee, this not very Hollywood! Old Bull. At least an evil witch turned a prince into a frog...... where in the script does it say an empty bottle of "Bud Lite" turns John Cline into an Old Bull? ;-( looks like the script needs some revisions ;-)
Musicvid: Grammatically it would be right to say "I wish I were in Dixie" but if this does not scan in a song or a poem it is OK to use "was" ..... its called artistic licence ..... but whether it's "were" or "was" I wish we could have a licence to limit or even exclude the irritiating and ill-considered comments from out beer swilling contributor! He's aggravated and alienated far too many of our regular and most highly regarded contributors and, in doing so, has diminished the value of the forum.
I wish you would quit going to YouTube and putting "That sucks" on my videos, I never harassed you OUTSIDE the forum.
=======================================
Go ahead, Bud, I give up. The forum is all yours. As long as you're allowed to post on the forum, I will have little more to do with it.
Bud, the only reason you're here and not long gone is that the moderators here are a lot more lenient than they are on Creative Cow where you only lasted a week or two.
I strongly recommend that you lay low, read and learn a lot and offer advice only when it contributes something useful to the discussion at hand.
I wish you would quit going to YouTube and putting "That sucks" on my videos, I never harassed you OUTSIDE the forum.
Someone thinks OUTSIDE the box and that makes you upset? Say it ain't so Bud! Rather annoying when someone comes into a place where you and your friends hang out, and starts causing problems. Isn't it? It is OK for you to come here and start annoying people but when they come to your YouTube place you don't like it. Fascinating Captain (old people will get the reference). Anyway, at least you got someone to watch your videos. Real cutting edge stuff. Driving down the road while it snows. No doubt symbolic of mans rape on nature. Let me ask you, did you delete those comments "That Sucks"? Now you know what I was talking about with the "Ignore" button. I await your intellectual response. Something real creative like before. You might try "Oh, Yeah?".
Mpeg Wizard 5 from womble.com is something I use regularly to re-edit DVDs. I prefer it to Video Redo which is also very good.
For music I sometimes use Propellerheads Reason & Record software. I also have a Pro Tools setup that I only use for music recording (I use Vegas for anything involving picture or non-musical sound). I have a whole bunch of music related plug-ins.
I use Photoshop Elements all the time. I used to use the full version of Photoshop, but Elements goes so far these days that I can't see much reason to spend the extra money.
I use http://www.benvista.com/main/content/content.phpPhotozoom Pro[/link] for uprezzing still photos. I just love that uprezzer. I use it for uprezzing frames from HD footage to use in DVD cover and promotional material. I also use it for uprezzing the low resolution photos that too often are all clients have to give me.
Izotope RX for audio noise reduction and the free Mike Crash noise reducer for video noise reduction are absolute essentials. I like the free Mike Crash noise reducer better than Neat Video.
The whole New Blue Video Essentials set. They are just wonderful: all of them.
For I think $60 - you can download Video recorders, video converter, video editor, Video remaker, video player, DVD creator and more
Plus
Audio recorder, mixer, converter, editor, cd creator...
plus
image converters and tools.
Hands down it is one great purchase. I use the audio converter the most to convert my purchased AAC files to MP3 or wave to use with Vegas.
this is also a great program for re-encoding video encoded at VBR for importing and editing. Takes the video/audio stream and puts it to a constant bitrate.
I used Bluff for the titles on this intro video. I love Bluff and don't use it enough. $62 is a great price for it. http://www.vimeo.com/2735319
I had used XnView on my old system and hated it. I download IrfanView and started playing with it. Screen capture works good as well. I see IrfanView makes note of XnView stealing their code. Figures.
