I was afraid this would become a cornucopia of everything out there.

Can someone organize an indexing system whereby the really good free stuff floats to the top?

Thanks

I noticed several people recommended Veggie Tool. I tested trial version once on batch processing and it seemed extremely handy. What would be major benefit of Veggie over Production Assistant - or visa versa? I'm debating on purchasing one or the other... Thanks.

Epic I from DVFILM, real-time editing without transcoding for your Canon DSLR, just got the 64-bit beta version today!

Good point, I suppose the posters need to be indexed too.

I don't want to miss out on anything REALLY good, but I don't want to waste my time and possible spyware.

I guess I'll start with the known fussbudgets, and one of them only offered VirtualDub (that's a no-brainer). Hmmm...that's odd that a smart feller like that only has ONE measly contribution.

No. I'm guessing that what you might think is "good" and what someone else thinks is "good" may be two entirely different things. We all have different needs and requirements.

Corrected syntax:

"I really wish I

'Was' is the singular past tense. 'Were' is the plural past tense.

"I was allowed to call you an idiot.

J/K, John, really.

;?)

Now you're getting close to home.
As like substituting the collective "we" for the first person singular "I"?
Unfortunately, I do it all the time. It "may" have something to do with being a Gemini, but we're not quite sure.

LOL indeed.

"Cool Ruler" is a two-thumbs-down for me, too small and will give you an eye-ache. You probably need a giant magnifier glass to see the ticks.

Tried to uninstall it, and it left an orphan shortcut on my desktop that I can't get rid of. Probably have to reboot to clear it.

Whoops, you did another faux paw. (Oops, I meant foe-paw)

"used" is improper grammar, should be "use".

Gosh, Bud.
Sorry it was such an inconvenience for you.
And thanks for being so grown-up about it.

Ah, that's OK, no harm no foul. It was the thought that counted. The poster that offered it had no way to know.

Was it Shakespeare that said "One man's trash is another man's treasure"?

Pencil “free” easy to use 2d animator for animated overlays of text, swishes = lines, figure cuts, etc
Use black back and draw in grey so you can ADD them to video clips then use gradient fx to give them color
Also lets you retain alpha channel. Get a cheap drawing tablet it’s easier than a mouse

TSmuxeR is an absolute must in the tool box.
MultiAVCHD is also extremely good as well as EAC3to (comes in command line form or GUI)

These are all free and quite powerful for their size and simplicity.

Cool Ruler is ancient. I think it was written in 1997, when typical screen resolution was probably 800x600. Admittedly it does look small at modern screen resolutions. If anyone knows a more modern equivalent with bigger ticks then please let us know.

I like Mercalli by ProDad (if you can think of that as other software).

To be mischievous and revert to the debate about grammar, I think you will find that the phrase "I wish I were......" is correct as this is the mandative subjunctive mood and can thus properly be used in the way it was! Cor Blimey!!!

As in "I wish I were in Dixie"?
Don't think so . . .
RRA wrote on 5/28/2010, 9:10 AM
Hi,

ProDAD Mercalli is excellent.

With help of Mercalli you can correct not only shake but smooth movement in panning, titling and zooming (in terms of constant speed or smooth acceleration).

There is no equivalent for 64 bit Vegas :-(
It looks like ProDAD is not going to upgrade soft to 64bit.

Best regards,

I really wish I were allowed to call you an idiot.

Maybe you can just call an idea idiotic instead of calling the person an idiot? After all, 1 out of 10 of so-and-so's ideas aren't idiotic so it's good to leave the door open for those random chances.

Bud, I've used another app called Sizer: http://www.brianapps.net/sizer/

It's very simple <edit>and might be a decent substitute for Screen Ruler (Haven't looked at Screen Ruler to compare, though.)</edit>

:-) In the context referenced, he's not insulting me, he's in third person or what-if mode, technically exempt from the personal insult rule. It's like setting up a "straw man" as a proxy.

The humor in it is very dry or tongue-in-cheek, and that's my style too, so I just laugh along, as he intended.

I mentioned to the forum before that if I make a ludicrous statement, it's ALWAYS humor, but I hate to put smileys because that ruins the delivery.

Hahaha
