OT - Please Do Not Answer Easy Questions

MUTTLEY wrote on 3/16/2004, 12:29 PM
Look folks, I have a very small role to play here on this forum and I am continually annoyed to no end when someone else answers a simple question that I could have answered.

Here are a few examples of Mutt in action:

Example Number One

And this one:

Example Number Two

Not to shabby huh ? But let me point out that the only way I was able to jump in on these topics was because of the abnormal hours I keep. Luck and timing my friends, luck and timing.

So all you big shot pros and know it alls, please leave topics like these alone. Throw me a bone every once in a while wouldja ? Leave a few scraps every now and again so I feel like I have a little something to to offer. Save your greater efforts for the those truly complex and mind-numbing questions that I, for example, might ask.

I appreciate your full cooperation in this matter and thank you for your time.

Does that mean OT topics or non-OT topics or both?

And................

If it pertains to non-OT topics then the question (statement) probably shouldn't have been listed as an OT topic, but rather a regular topic since it then would fit into that very category would it not.

On the other hand...................

If it pertains to OT topics only, then it was in fact correctly listed but may confuse some of the OT big shots and know-it-alls because they often cross-post on both non-OT topics and OT topics. However it would not confuse the OT ONLY big shots because they would/should know exactly what you mean with little or no real confusion (being know-it-alls).

The real confusion comes..............

From the cross-posters who may not read this thread until the thread develops further depending upon whether they post more OT or more on topic. Even more confusing are those who post OT without SPECIFYING that it is OT thinking instead that the subject is on topic. Of course they risk being chastised by the "why didn't you post that OT know-it-alls" as well as being absolutely immersed in the controversy of whether or not the subject was actually OT or on topic. That in turn will probably keep them up nights which will only worsen the situation you point out by having them awake at the same time as you and thereby tempting them to engage directly in a posting contest with you while the rest of us are sleeping and missing all the fun.

Hope I didn't stray too far OT.

So this is a forum to help other Vegas users, a lot of the time these users need answers ASAP, and we are just supposed to sit and wait so someone else can answer the questions whenever they have time. Doesn't make much sense to me at all.
rmack350 wrote on 3/16/2004, 1:10 PM
I think you should create another user profile. Name it "MuttleyAnswers"

Then you can post questions under one name and answers under another. If you plan ahead you can maybe get a whole thread going before anyone knows what hits them.

That's what I'd do anyway.

Name it "MuttleyAnswers"

Johnny Carson retired a long time ago and no one took over his "Amazing Carnac" routine where someone gives him the Answer and he then makes up the Question.

How about that one? No competition on this forum...........Guaranteed !

Just direct the questions to Ed, Gary, John or BillyBoy. The rest of us don't have a clue.

In order to allow others, such as Mutley, to answer as many questions as possible,I only answer when I

(A) have a unique perspective or insight into a particular problem, or
(B) have an opportunity to shamelessly promote my voice-over services to Vegas users, by forcing them to go to my demo sites:

You may have missed it, but for a few minutes the following was up on the Sony site – it has been taken down now:

"Sony Digital Pictures are pleased to announce that the forthcoming release of Vegas 5 will include a new “Dear Muttley” help button.

Users will be able to use this button to ask straightforward questions, particularly relating to choppy renders, uncompressed renders, or any other type of rendering enquiries. We are confident that Muttley’s replies will render the questioners speechless.

Because of this new feature, Vegas 5 should now be ready by NAB 2005.”

I think it's great that the experts are willing to take the time to answer elementary or difficult questions, no matter how many times it's been asked before! That's one of the reasons this forum is great! To the Pro's - thanks and please don't worry that Muttley may not be quick enough on the keyboard!

Muttley:

Here's another possible role you can play--

When I give answers, it's a pretty fair bet that I'm wrong about 70% of the time. So just look for my responses, and then jump in--Ta Daa!--with the correct answer.

Seriously, everybody here seems real friendly and gracious. A few weeks ago I wandered over to the Vegas Audio board and got my head chewed off.

Muttley, one of the funniest posts I've seen anywhere.
epirb wrote on 3/16/2004, 8:18 PM
If Nuttley gets be to the "easy Vegas answer guy"
Then I want to be the "Mr. Obvious Vegas Guy"
like they have on the news shows.
You know the guy, when the're talking about the high gas prices and they say " We'll have an expert on the show to talk about saving money at the pump."
then he get's on and says stuff we aready know like:
instead of driving to the store try walking.
or try carpooling to work.
trade in that SUV for a Geo Metro.
So when people ask things on Vegas like:
" I'm having trouble hearing the audio effects on my clips"
I'll give helpful tips like:
"try connecting a set of speakers to your pc."
or" Its a good practice to have your hearing checked anually"

Ooops Typo, Meant Muttley, I think Nuttley is his name on the Porn forum, SORRY!
MUTTLEY wrote on 3/16/2004, 9:20 PM
Good God this was a funny, if not self-indulgent little thread. Thanks for playing along kids, and glad ya got my humor. Was only mildly concerned that it might be a bit to dry and accidently mistaken as serious, but apparently most got the "facetious" nature of my post (most!).

Thanks for making me laugh out loud throughout the day !

" Nuttley " ... rofl.

I must say your voice-over in that clip was EXTREMELY subtle. In fact, it sounded like no audio whatsoever! Did you use Vegas' "Silent" setting when you recorded it?
...or is something amiss here?
