J mac - I have exactly the same mobo and dual AMDs - and SP2 is behaving ok so far.

Mind you, this PC is not connected to the internet. When I tried SP2 on my internet PC everything went wrong, so I restored that to to pre SP2.

Not using XP2 at all and not even thinking about installing it over XP1.

I'll second what SonyTSW said about the msdv.sys file that comes with sp2. Camera control became grayed out when sp2 went in. I could still capture using the cameras controls. When I got the sp1 version of msdv.sys back into the system the grayed out controls returned.

Thanks for all the good info. I will probably be doing a complete hard drive format and installing SP2 from scratch over the weekend. I'll make sure to copy my current MSDV.sys file to a safe place, and reinstall it after the SP2 install.

Any conflicts with the SP2 firewall and 3rd-party firewalls like Zone Alarm? (I don't trust Microsoft to block its own software from calling home.)

XP is horrible compared to win2k - it's slower, not as "lean", and seems to take up more system resources.. its' basically the build that MSFT created to try and license online to reduce piracy, offering no additional significant features compared to win2K.

I have win2k on 2 machines, including my primary, and winXP on my laptop + wife's pc (came with them pre-installed), and they're a lot slower and not as good as my default win2k machines.

test it for yourself.. :P
